I should know this but old timers is catching up to me. Jumper cables don't work so good. Took them apart and see why.Oxidation. Got them all cleaned up and the copper on the clamps is nice and shiny clean.Skinned the cables back to fresh meat. Going to solder the cables to the clamps this time. What solder do I use. Got some flux, some 50/50 and some rosin core.Something better to use? tia,bob

Ray"s answer is great. Heat the assembly evenly with flux flowing onto the heated metal. A copper soldering tip on a propane torch will get it hot enough. 400 watt electric iron Good. Solder gun no way. Jim

Use rosin core. Didn't think the connections on mine were that impressive so soldered mine before having any problems.

While you're at it, take a short piece of 12 or 14 gauge stranded wire and solder it between the two halves of the clamp. That will eliminate any voltage drop across the hinge pin and make it easier to get a good connection.
