ME and Son was looking (got bored at 1.30am)at You Tube about snow fall in Min in 2006.Said most every year Min gets hit with blizzard like conditions. Wisconsin had a bad winter this year ,so not much new ,except are you ready for APRIL SNOW SHOWERS? Keep the shovels and tractors handy (close by) just in case. fore warned is fore armed.Do you think it will be as severe this April? Regards, LOU.

April 9th 1973 here in SE Iowa we had 12 inches of wet snow with some wind.

Out of electricity for 72 hours.

It would be unusual in Michigan if we didn't. Dad was in the nursing home for rehabilitation one year so we didn't have the family Christmas til Easter. There was more snow on Easter that year than there was at Christmas.

We have a place in the CA foothills about 1600 ft. We do not get snow every year but when we do it is usually Feb or March. We had about 2" last weekend. The weather forcast is for snow to 500 ft this weekend.

By the time I got out to take pictures it was gone. Maybe this week I can get some.

Two years ago it snowed on Valentines Day. We were rushing a dog to the vet and it was near blizzard conditions. We had to go 7 miles out to the plowed highway. When we returned a few hours later the sun was out and the snow was gone. It is nice to have the beauty and none of the aftermath

It's uncommon, but I have seen several inches of snow cover emerging corn crop in the middle of May here in CNY. Last year hay was being cut at that time. The weather guesser's are saying we will have a wet cold spring here this year.

Had a blizzard in Bruce County April 24th 2005 that shut down roads and schools for two days. Oats and barley had been planted in the 2nd & 3rd week of the month. The grain had sprouted but was drowned out in the melt. Much of the crop had to be re-planted.
Snow, freezing rain or sleet on the May 24 weekend isn't unusual. Particularly in cottage country such as Muskoka or Haliburton.

Lou,you ever notice how the week of the wisconsin Highschool basketball state tournament we have totally awfull snow storms? Its almost gauranteed!

about 6 years ago, phil didn't see his shadow and we had snow here in mid April. Almost the most snow we had that whole winter..

Dave

About 20 years ago it SNOWED on the 2nd or 3rd Of JULY in my hometown. They had to postpone the Independence Day fireworks till the 5th because the clouds/fog was so low no-one would have been able to see them.
This is the in the high desert of Central Oregon.

Thanks Guys, .In the early mornings when I can't get to sleep, I was interested in the You tube MN Snow pictures. We did have a lot in April in 1998 had to fire up the J.D 420 and go pull a fellow back on the road. It sort of is frustrating for the northern farmers to have to worry about seeding. Frost damage etc.Winter for a Horse ranch (2 of em) Same family owned, that blankets the ones they let out side (when below Zero) And some in the spring.Thay farm quite a lot of ground for feed. I notice ice crystals on the blankets as we drive by. Snow is great for the berkie, and cross Country skiing,+ snowmobiles, but for us old fogies ,trying to get out and about has it's hazardous surprises. Was wondering if any of you seen the YOU TUBE Train pushing snow pix? That much snow ,they are welcome to it. How they manage the snow is beyond me.Any way guys. Lets hope it (snow, if we get it)will be marginal at best. REGARDS to all,. LOU.

Dave. Old Phil gets around .just to disappoint us all. What ever will be will be. QUE-cera-cera. .My old flame DORIS DAY use to sing it. what a honey. Loved her till I met The wife. Notice how I covered my Tracks with that one ? Called PEOPLE SKILLS> lol. Regards LOU p.s. what is the yearly snow fall where you live. ?? Would be interesting to Know. again REGARDS LOU.

Now that's a shame to loose it all. and have to Re-do. if time permits.Makes one discouraged Thanks for the reply REGARDS LOU.

ONly seen it snow in the Mountains in Nevada. in July. Seemed unreasonable at the time. Place called Sunrise Mountain. Use to play the 5 string to hear the echo . Couldn't get up on the mountain that time. regards LOU.

I guess some extra moisture is good for crop growth but an over abundance can be a crop killer. Hope it isn't this year. Regards LOU.

Seems like adverse weather hits during an emergency
making the problem worse. Was up around the Folsom area Years Ago. Mountains were desolate but beautiful, for a Kid trying his luck at panning.
Regards LOU

Always wanted to hunt mushrooms but don't I sure as he-- would pick the wrong ones. My mother could pick em from the farm in Penn. when I was just a tadpole. The sponge ones are up in this part of the country (under snow) but again .I'm as dumb as a rock when it comes to looking and picking em.I leave that to the experts.
Thanks for the reply. Keep the shovel Handy Regards LOU.

IA GARY. Now that makes for one bad time. We did a Generator install here and at my daughters home just in case. Need heat, water lights. and OH yes. For this old duffer , can't forget the T V. lol. Regards, LOU.

Snow here, in South Dakota, in April is not uncommon. Some of our biggest snowstorms, by that I mean most moisture, come in April. They are real calf killers as some people are in the heart of calving. One producer lost over 100 calves in an April blizzard and the next April it happened again and he lost a little less than 100. We can get storms in May also. Old timers say don't put cattle out to pasture until the end of May. One year we had a killing frost on Memorial Day weekend and another one on Labor Day weekend. That was hard on crops.

March 1960 here in North Carolina, SNOWED THREE WEDNESDAYS IN A ROW. Had traces of snow on the ground on April 1 (no April fools joke) in some shady places. Have seen snow as late as April 10, but it doesn't hang around long.

IAGary, I am glad you commented on that snow, April 9, 1973. I live in North Central Missouri. (Brookfield) We had around 20 inches in that snow. I am now 60 and it still stands as the biggest snow I had ever seen. The visibility for several hours on that Monday was about 100 feet at the most. Many 4 to 6 feet drifts. Just this past Feb 1 we got around 20 inches of drifting snow. It was the worst snow we have had since either 1978 or 79.

Thanks for the reply. I just wished we had the early melting temps you folks have, Sure would be a change of pace for us. regards LOU.

That would truly be dis-heartening to say the least. Big loss . No wonder fellows throw in the towel.Wouldn't be any way to locate and transport during any blizzard. What a shame/ Thanks for the reply. REGARDS. LOU.

ZAChARY What a nasty Mothers day gift ,Old mother nature gave away . Box Of chocolates and flowers and a meal out would have been welcomed. lol Guess Mother Nature doesn't splurge for such niceities
REGARDS, LOU.
