Armstrong Tires

I am currently restoring a 1957 M-M 335 Row crop. It has a 12.4x38 Armstrong on one side that appears like new. The other side has a very well worn 38" can't even read the brand or size.
From floor to top of tires there is a 2" difference. I would like to find another matching Armstrong, but cannot find a dealer.
Are they no longer available???
Thanks for the help, Jim

Look for a dealer that handles Titan tires. Titan bought the Armstrong molds.

I recently bought a 12.4x38 Titan to match a good Armstrong that I have. The Titan is an exact match except for the name on the side.

They were bought by Titan.
I'd strongly suggest you find a Firestone. Or any China or India made tire. Anything but Titan. I though all Armstrong's had long since blown.

Did the exact same thing on a 11.2x36 a few years ago, and it is not showing an signs of deterioration yet. I can't complain about the quality, but it was an exact match.

Pete and everybody is right titans are an exact match. I lucked out last year finding an armstrong to match my other armstrong 13.6x38 on my MM 4 star. He lived in eastern Iowa and I'm in eastern Nebraska, mentioned to him if he was coming this way anytime soon, I'd meet him. And with in a month I met him with cash, only two hours away instead of 8. chris

Armstrong became Titan, who also bought GoodYear ag tires division. Really good tires at decent price for the most part, in spite of what some habitual whiners say. Any bonehead can destroy a tire by abusing and mis-using their equipment.

You should get out more. There's a lot of people in this world who've had terrible results with Titan products... and cost them a lot of money. They seem to work well on antiques store in a shed; not so much on working tractors.

You should try reality on for size. You might find it refreshing, and you'll DEFINATELY find it different than the dream state you currently live in.

There is but ONE constant whiner who spreads gossip about Titan tires "blowing out".....You. No one else has these misfortunes that you report. In that situation, a prudent individual would look at how you're using/misusing/abusing your equipment, OR, quit making up your "facts" as you go along, which ever the case may be. (I tend to believe the later to be the case...)

I know of multitudes of folks who have excellent service from Titan tires. Their tractors work for a living.

We put Armstrong radials on all our 75 HP and up tractors 15, almost 20 years ago now. The last The last set was Titan. Also had two sets of Armstrong bias plies on two other tractors. The set on the 786 we got cheap, "like new, used", and they would walk down the road, the one had a broken cord. The only other one we had troubles with was on the 1066, but it was probably turning 250-300 horse and kept popping a drive lug out of the rim into the tube.

You know... I'll be blunt this time. You live in hobby land along with 90% of the rest of people who get along with Titan tires. They're plain and simply worked to a different load factor. You may not want to admit that you're not working them hard... but it is the case all the same.
I can guarnantee you that if you read the AgTalk forum the responses there are over 90% the same as mine... coming from people who work tractors and combines daily doing hard heavy work.
Again I will say... if they work for you, good for you.
For me, and many like me, the problems were cured with Firestone and Michelin products. Funny how those tires do the same work and don't fail?

Don't know about Michelin but years ago I told the enginers at the Firestone farm tire proving ground their tires were Junk and that I would never have one of them.

Hey Rod,
What's your bad experience with "Titans"? I'm running 14.9x28's on the 3910 and 18.4x30's on the 5610! No complaints from me! The 3910 is loaded with CaCl, and the 5610 with Rim Guard. Just curious!
Dave
Edit: Sorry Rod, guess I should have read all of your posts before asking my question. Also, one thing I have done is get the highest ply rating available when buying my tires. I think my 14.9's are 6PR and the 18.4's are 8PR. That might help a little. Both tractors work in the woods on occasion, and no punctures or blow outs so far. I guess if I were to diss any tires it would be Galaxys!
JMHO, Dave

The sidewalls blow in them... about 90% so far between the Armstrong's and Titan's I've had. THe only ones that haven't blown were a set of R4 skid steer tires. Two of them I wore to the cord and fired them away. Two more I had capped... and then had to do two section repairs on one of them. Overall they were not bad and would not have been trouble if Id gotten rid of them instead of capping... but R1 drives... all have blown anywhere between 1-10 years; none worn out. Impliment tires seem to rot and not hold air... but in that regard they're not that different than a lot of their competition. Some of the older Armstrong were not too bad... but I've had at least half a dozen CaCl showers from the other devils. I'll never own another.

Firestone did indeed have problems... probably 20-30 years ago or more. They fixed their problems. Titan's response is to blame the OEM/owner/user for the problem.... lines like... they used the wrong wheels, you used it incorrectly.... it's not supposed to last forever.... those are common responses, right from the top at Titan. There's a lot of us doing the same bad things to Firestone and Michelin tires today without the headaches.
