heat probe

Ford Model 3000 diesel does the probe supposed to contact the coolant or is it only in contact with the metal cyl. head. Probe is missing from the head but no coolant leak.......Maybe just blocked by rust and scale?

Usually it"s just in contact with the coolant.

Thanks. That's what I figured it shoud be so the hole must be plugged with scale and rust. I'll try sticking something through all that before putting the new probe in.
