Marketing Pencil Drawings

Does anyone sell sketches or have ideas on how to do it (or if it's worth doing).
Not sure if these are even good enough. These are more practice sketches. But I'm always looking for a way to make a buck that can help support my farming habit.

I can't draw worth a half a fish, but for handmade stuff etsy.com is a good site. I sell various wooden stuff on there and have done fairly well out of it over the past year. The account is free and it costs 20 cents per item to list something for sale, then if you sell it they get 3.5% of the sale price, I think.

Drawings aren't too bad, but I don't think they could be sold. You need to take a few classes and get a better handle on perspective. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking you because I can't draw. Just suggesting how you could get better.

Ya, I agree these are pretty bad. They were more of a doodle at a business meeting during a conference I went to. I was planning on using them as a rough draft/sketch and re-working them or something similar.
Mainly was looking for ideas on how to go about the marketing. Thought maybe someone on here had bought things like this or done something similar and could give me some direction.

Actually those are very good sketches. The proportions are just a little off but that's easy to fix. I would see if there are any co-ops(not sure of the proper term) in your area where local artists can sell their work and crafts. Flea markets would be another idea. I think there are people that would buy high quality sketches like that, especially if you offered to reproduce old pictures or pictures from brochures into blown up sketches or did drawings of the equipment the customer had. It would be kind of neat having a hand drawn sketch of the your farm yard with all of your equipment in it. Dave

Etsy is one of the biggest "sell your homemade stuff" websites.

But if you offer it there you also take the risk of finding your offering on Regretsy

Hey, I like them. Just keep posting them on here and guys can print their own. Saves you the expense. As you get better guys will start asking you for something specific. Then you can charge them. That's what I'd do.

You have natural talent. I sure couldn't do anything like that.

If you can take an art class at a local community college, you should certainly take advantage of the opportunity. I'll bet with a little practice you could start producing something folks are likely to buy. Then you could hit the craft show circuit. Consider selling framed artwork; people are likely to pay a lot more for something in a frame.

The real money is made selling signed prints. You know: Have 50, 100 or 500 prints made, then sign each one "1/100", etc.

Refine your drawing some and than have prints made like others have posted. Then try the webs site suggested. I would then hit the antique tractor shows and parades.

How fast can you draw a picture?? Could you do a rough sketch or picture and then do a real good one off of that? If you can I would pay good money to have one that was personal. Example would be me holding my Grand Kids on a tractor. My wife has one of her parents on the old board walk in New Jersey during their honeymoon. It is her most prised possession.

local girl in high school started doing drawings from photos, made changes as requested. took old farmhouse photo and took off new additions and put correct old truck in drive and folks on porch, etc, get the idea, .... apparently doing enough "commisioned" worked she went to college and it paid most of her tuition on an art degree.

You have potential, but, you have to have desire to perfect a talent such as schetching, painting in any if the mediums etc. It is satisfying to create but if you do it with the sole intention of renumeration then you will be disapointed before you reach your full potential. I have attached a forum addy that is a good beginning in art. Good Luck JH

I've seen alot of pencil sketches for sale at model railroad shows and for anyone to get even a second look they've got to be REALLY good...i mean museum quality good...like someone took a photo and used a computer to change it into a sketch type of good.
