OT--Craftsman garage door opener problem

I have a 1/2 horse screw drive craftsman that quit the other day. Worked fine leaving for the barn and now there is no signs of life. I took it down and got into the unit. There is power coming in and nothing seems obviously blown or burned. What can I do to test it or how do I tell what is wrong? I took it totally apart and everything looks good but when the unit was up there was no lights on the wall button or the door sensors. Appreciate any advice. I did go to Sears Parts direct website and I see the brain board is still available for this model but at $80+ I want to make sure that is the real problem.

Since everything seems dead, the first thing I'd check would be the 120 Volts going into and the 24 Volts coming out of the control transformer.

hope you dont have a wall switch that cuts power to the door plug in like my other house did to shut it down all together for when you were away so outside interference may open it when not wanting it too.

I once had a power surge and wiped out the low voltage transformer on the mother board (brain box). That would cause you to have no lights at the sensors and switch. If it were me, I would spend another $100 and buy a new opener like you have and save the old one for parts. I would also buy a surge surpressor for the opener.

When trees fall on power lines, you are subjected to power surges. Lightning is another source.
