Snow, Too Deep to Get to Wood Lot Pics.

Heat wave today, 35F at 2:39 PM, so I thought I would see just how deep the snow was in the fields. and woods.I guess I'm not going to cut wood for a while, as I couldn't cross the field to the woods. Drove in as far as I could with the 300, but was in up to the rear axles when I backed back out and took the pic., before I got stuck, first pic.. The uncle is still spreading manure with the MX110 MFD and NI tandem spreader. He can't make it up the farm roads now, so there is a 2 mile road trip each way to get to the field. The last pic. is where we usually turn off the town road to spread manure and head for the woods, on another farm road. It's suppose to get to mid 40sF this coming week. Our over due January thaw I guess. Today was the 3rd day it got above freezing since Nov. 30th. 2010

Arn't you supposed to get all this winters firewood home BEFORE the winter starts!

BTW that case might be an nice oldie but it sure looks ugly to me.

BTDT, cut more wood this year than last. Ran out in mid january. 3 bouts of sub zero sure does eat into the pile. Been bringing it out of the woodlot on my shoulder. Keeps one busy on the weekend, and cancels any need of a gym. That Case looks good, but seen more of them on this board than I ever saw back when.

Nice looking tractor. We have had the warm up here too. Makes the snow harder to get through. And I understand the fire wood problem. Had such a wet spring/summer last year couldn't get into the fields. Worked double duty in the fall but it has been so cold I am almost out. Told the wife I was going to start burning furniture and she said "good, that way I can get new furniture".

Nice restore job, I hope they dont put down as much salt on the roads there as they do here., Dosent look it. You would hate to get salt all over your tractor!

Those big sugar maples in the third picture were probably running well today. Those full crown trees should have some high percentage sap and lots of it.

Yep, I've been burning my indoor backup coal supplies for the last few weeks. I can't use the forklift to move my palletized wood totes. Usually do that around the end of January as that is the midpoint of the heating season.

That's a very nice looking tractor, I would be scared to use it in the woods for fear of scratching the paint. I am in the same situation except the snowbanks by the road are 5' high or more on level areas so I can't get off the road at all. I always end up cutting in the early spring because there is too much snow in the winter. We burn 23-24 standard cords a year and I split all that is split by hand, so it usually takes a couple of weeks of work. I hope you'll be able to get out there soon. It's supposed to get up to the 40s later in the week, maybe we'll be able to set our 15-20 taps. That's always something nice to look forward to at this time of year.

I'm pretty careful in the woods with it, but, I can't justify having it if it can't do something for me other than look pretty. I also have a 1957 Case 310 crawler with a fabed up hydraulic driven winch and full fabed forestry ROPS/FLOPS protection. The original 148ci. Case motor (same as the tractor picured) still runs, but it is really wooped. I have a Case 201ci. combine engine that I need to put into it.
Deep snow won't be a problem when I make the engine transplant. It's a great little dozer in the woods.

shucks ADKase guy ,,Sure am sorry to see all that Cold snow all around you,.. bet that gasser 300 was eager to go out and see what it could do anyway ... Dad had one about4 years ,, He traded it nearly even for a Liguid Manure Spreader so we Could pump the pits in 1972// been colder than normal here in southern ind,, did make it to 50 today ,, rare that we have tempps below freezingfor 2weeks here ,

Bein' as you have a rain cap, could you run a small screw up the exhaust drain hole, to prevent sooting up that nice paint?

Interesting you made it that far, snow depth here was/is around 2 1/2 feet or so, too deep to run in, even large MFWD tractors I would think. Temperatures sure have made sure not much has melted til today. Nice to see that case round nose, a good friend/neighboring farm, long time dairyman had one for years, was mostly Ford, IH and JD around here, used to catch my attention as a kid as it passed by, with tandem wagons of square bales. he'd still have it if someone did not set his shop on fire mid 90's on fathers day. Never knew much about those, always wondered, HP and the like and or what most people used em for, his did not have the engine side panels. I always thought if I ever won the lottery or something, would be hilarious to find one of those and tuck it in his shed or something.
