1970, if in good hyd shape should lift a 8RN JD 7000 full of dry fert right?? I beleive with all 4 tubs filled its 2000# plus planter. Wouldnt do it last spring, wondering if it should be able to, if so I want to get it checked out soon.

I think a 870 is too small a tractor for that kind of a load....loose the fert,or go with a 6 row(or 4),get a bigger tractor..1070 min.

I pulled my 8rw 7000 jd with my 830 comfort king, on gently rolling ground it didn't even know it was behind it in 5th gear, no fert. though, the 70 series has better hydraulics and should lift it, wonder if your pump is weak, we used to pull a 400ih 8rw planter with df behind my 1650 Oliver

The 770/870 relief pressure is lower than the rest of the 70 series by about 200 lbs if I remember right. Put a penny under the spring for the relief valve and it will get you to 970 specs if the rest of the system is good. I don't know why they were ever set lower, thry share the same system but for some reason the 7 and 8 had the same setting as the 30 series.
