Sorry, the title should have been.

How many forum users does it take to change a light bulb?

Ain't that the way it goes! A lot of the time, there is a lot of real info., available here that could not be gained by those of us that post here, without the day to day practical experiences of others who post here. Yes we are a stuborn lot, with allegiance to our flag first and then to green, red, blue, etc. Everyone has an opinion, and we all are smart enough to glean the harvestable crop from the chaff.

I think you forgot about me posting about the government conspiracy over compact floresence lamps and the global warming myth. LOL !!!!!

Actually 5, 1 to hold the bulb and 4 to turn the chair he/she is standing on. Which of course opens the discussion of whether it's safe to stand on a chair and which chairs are best and.....

A fellow posted that a block heater in his truck would open a GFI when plugged in.Many replies blamed it on rain, snow and moisture in the air.The owner of the truck finally put an ohmmeter on the heater element and got a reading of 2 ohms between the truck body and the hot leads on the heater. He says is this normal.I say you have a dangerous condition that will put 120 volts on the truck body.A couple of educated fools come on and say heater elements never develope leakage. Both are engineers. Some one asks what my qualifications are that I know so much.I have spent 45 years repairing appliances and have spent much time in wet cellers fixing sick water heaters. The truck owner finally decides he has a problem that needs to be fixed. He thinks he can fix it himself.I tell him to leave it alone because after reading his posts I dont think hes capable.Hes the moderator of the forum so I expect to be banned forever.

And don't forget the greenie weenies to say Edison's bulbs should be banned, for the good of the planet, with no reliable research on AGW!

Wow! I'm "Really In The Dark" on this one...

you forgot the guys who blame external_link for the bulb burning out. It worked fine when Dubya was in office!

Well , beggars can't be choosers and any and all info you get on here for the asking is free.So one shouldn't ask how to change the bulb and then shoot all the messengers.Besides it's winter and everyone is bored.

B-maniac,

I came across that posting on another forum and thought that it was interesting especially since I have changed my share of light bulbs in my occupation before I retired.)
The worst job was changing the ballast assembly on the old Mercury vapor lights with the large heavy shades that were 30' in the air and I don't like heights.
One time I saw two guys changing a bulb way up there by placing a step ladder on top of the trolley on an overhead bridge hoist.

At GM plant paint mix room. Mercury bulbs like you said. Place 16 foot A ladder on plywood, on barrels on rolling conveyor. Power could not be turned off. If fire, you had 30 seconds before room filled with halon gas and door locked. Scary deal for sure. Never volunteered for this. Usually did it once a month. Sparkless tools supposed to be used. Nobody ever found them to use. This was 1970 in Detroit. Dave

barn E,
Oh the fun we had. One of our plants was 40' tall and we had what we called crank ups which were later powered with an electric motor. The platforms on them were about 3' X 5' and we had one would go up almost to the ceiling. They had out riggers on each side As they went up and each section raised they would tilt and sway. One time another guy and I went up to the top and a guy on the roof handed us a motor down through a hatch. That was a rickety ride and scared the cr@p out of me and was the last time that I ever did that. We had to have another guy down below to watch for someone running a bridge hoist into us and knocking us over.

Which type are you talking about? There are two types, bayonet cap and screw in. I'll need to know which one before I can help you.

I saw one like that about different breeds of dogs and changing light bulbs. One line was "How many Border Collies does it take to change a light bulb?" Answer "Only one and while he is at it he will re-wire the whole house because they is so intelligent!"

My mistake! I thought the post might be mocking the replies one might get when posting a question or comment on these forums.See the parallel ?

My Border collie knows colors and many words. He loves to ride in my truck and get excited if I pick up my check book or work on a shopping list.Just putting on different hats tips him off that you are going to use the truck. His papers say he has UK relatives. He knows when I am sad and will climb in my lap and lean against me.This dog does things that are spooky, he can antisipate which way you will throw his ball.My cattle understand words. In any case he is a good friend but wont let anyone get in my truck when he is in there.
