Adirondack pictures from last August

I'm looking forward to summer coming back. In each of the past two years I have taken a trip on my bicycle about 85 miles up to the Eagle Bay area and this year during part of my trip I went another 55 miles or so to the Santanoni Preserve, which was a combination farm/second home for a very wealthy Albany banking family in the late 1800s and is now state owned. I'm planning to go back up that way this summer and maybe go for 7 days instead of 5.

Zack I took that same ride into the Santanoni Preserve several years ago. We were camping at a state park a short distance away. It was about 7 mi. bike ride off the hwy. The stone building. is the dary with a barn across the road. That was a nice half day trip. Did they ever fix up the boat houes? Ed

The Adirondack Park is in NY State (USA) and is about 6 million acres. A good part of that is owned by the state, but much of it is private land, though the state has very strict regulations on what can be done there--how large of a house can be built, how much logging can be done, etc. etc., with the idea of keeping it "forever wild".

The boat house is all rebuilt but the barn was burned in a suspicious fire in 2004 and has not been rebuilt, although there are supposedly plans to rebuild it. The main lodge is also undergoing major repairs now. It will be a few years before they get it all back together, but it is still neat to see. I really like the dairy building.

Reminds me of the Boy Scout camp I worked at when I was fifteen. Little past Long Lake going toward Tupper. Was an old millionaire"s estate. Lived in the 6,000 sq. ft. main lodge. The scouts owned 3 mountains, a hugh lake filled with largemouth bass and several thousand acres. I tought swimming, life saving, canoeing and sailing. It was donated to the scouts by Amanda Watt.

My mother said she hoped someday I would own something like this. Ended up with 160 ft. of shoreline and a 1600 sq. ft. log home in the southwest Adirondacks. She stayed with us every weekend until she passed.

Thanks very much. I was using a Canon A40, which is about 8-9 years old and only has 2 MP. I got it used for about $30 and used it for two trips to the Adirondacks. I bought a somewhat newer and smaller and much higher resolution A520 this fall for about $40 and will take that this summer. I still use the older camera for taking pictures for ads and such, since it takes smaller images that are faster to upload.
