Devilbiss Starting Line guns

Any opinions on these? Good or bad for novice painter. I have been using a cheap Harbor Freight gun for a few years and am ready to step up to a better setup.

I've got several differant guns & my Deilbiss is a good gun but my favorite is a Sharp. To me it seems to be a little better balanced & just feels good in my hand. It has been a long time since I bought them so I cant remember what they cost. Gerald

The Devilbis spray gun is outstandingly good !!
I've used one for years and I've sprayed a number of cars, trucks and tractors, and they are the best !! One word of caution, with the new automotive paints used nowadays..once you've added the "hardener"...use it all up as it will not "keep", otherwise dispose of it (hazardous waste) also keep in mind the area you are spraying and mix only enough paint for that job !
Good luck !!

Don't let the name fool you the starting line is made in china. With that said it should be ok for painting projects.Stan

I have an old Devilbiss I bought used back the 1970's. I've rebuilt the spray gun over the years. I also have an HVLP spray gun. I like the Devilbiss better if you're changing paint colors as it is a lot easier to clean. I used it last May to paint my garden tractor. Hal

The old model 7 Binks hasen't been changed for over 50 years! but the new HVLP guns have taken over, not many siphan guns being used much anymore........Just my .02 cents worth...Jim in N M

There a good name, not sure of that model though. I have a Binks, Develbiss, Sharp, and a couple of imports. More important is the tip size and gravity or suction and HVLP etc. and what you are going to spray with them I have one I use for surfacer, one for enamel. one for base coat and one for clear. There is no one gun that will do a good job on the many different coatings. Most automotive coating have a recommended use chart for them, study and read up before you spend big money on a gun. If I'm having a hard time spraying a product and getting it to look the way I want it to, I usually grab the old Binks Model 7. It's my 1st professional gun from about 1970. It will spray anything and do it well, only thing about half the product goes up in mist, which is waste, but it will lay a nice finish.
