national anthem

Too bad we can't get a national anthem at the superbowl without a bunch of caterwauling!! It doesn't seem to matter who sings it, it's always the same.

No reason to have some big name artist, would mean more to me to see some young gal that won a school talent contest some where and get a little 15 minutes of fame. Celebrities do nothing but make me sick of celebrities.

I was on the road, didn't see or hear it.

But, I saw the late Stevie Ray Vaughn play it at a Texas Rangers game. He did it very well. Have see Ted Nugent play it several times, since he opens his shows with it, and takes it serious for which I'm grategul. And saw the band Boston play it a couple of times, once great, and once, well they shouldn't have. Just saw and heard some new young female country western starlette sing it on TV a few days ago at the beginning of one of her concerts, buy didn't catch her name, and didn't recognize her. She did it very clean and clear, no added foolishness. Seems like more and more bands are singing or playing it at their concerts, and I'm grateful, so long as they don't blow it up trying to make a name for themselves.

Of course, the National Anthem at a Blackhawks hockey game is out of this world. If get to one of their games late and miss the National Anthem, may as well turn around and go home, because thats half of the game.

I just walked in just in time for the half time show, which always stinks up the joint with some has been music artists that no one has seen or heard in years, and generally shouldn't have heard back then either. But...I will get to catch the second half and hope its a game.

Mark-

I agree on the Anthem at a Blackhawks game. Difficult to describe, one has to be there to fully appreciate it.

I didn't like the version of tonight's National Anthem either. The girl is a great singer, and she could have done the best job with those vocal pipes she has. Whitney Houston did a great job during the first Gulf War, too bad she turned into a crack-head.

As for the Blackhawks? Let's Go Red Wings! Winner of 11 Stanley Cup Championships,...most for any USA NHL team!

LOOK AT QUEBE SISTERS on youtube... they could have opened ,, and all of AMERICA could be proud , after all they live nearby

Ehren, I have run down Madison so as not to miss the Anthem. Back in the old days of Thee Stadium (Barn), Wayne Messmer, and the Barton organ, WOO WEE. Run to be AT our seats for the start of the Anthem. Fond memories.

She messed it up, I can't sing at all so probably shouldn't complain. ;)

Half time show was aweful to me, but they ain't my cup of tea so maybe it was just me.

Actually commercials were pretty average as well, for a change the game was the most interesting thing...

I agree that what ever her name is ruined the National Anthem. But then again who has sang it right at the Super Bowl? I like the idea of getting a talent show contestant do it. As for the Half Time show.... Well I left the room. Never have and Never will like those froot loops.

Now that you brought it up.

My feelings of the singing of the "National Anthem"
Should only be sung the way it was written. not to be changed by some vocalist to make it their own sound.

Another thing (ALL) involved in any sport as an AMERICAN custom, all people should while it is being played to Show respect and SALUTE our stripes. and not dance around or chat while they play it . I think it to be so disrespectful for the guys that never came back.

hey paul-I figure we got our singing ability from our Higher Power, so don"t feel bad if you can"t carry a tune in a bucket. I"ve been lucky that way, and received many compliments from fellow parishioners at funerals and weddings, since I enjoy singing while standing in the pews. Watching the National Anthem, I certainly did not appreciate the variation, but even more than that was seeing the camera on so many players that either did not no where their heart was, or had both hands on their shirt lapels, or stood complacent. At this stage of their life, they should know how to respect the flag of the country that gave them their freedom. As a mid 60s Veteran, I thought it was disgusting.

I didn't care for Christina Aguilera's version of the national anthem, but at least she sang it live. The NFL usually insists that the singers pre-record the Star-Spangled Banner, then lip-sync. Heaven forbid someone make a mistake and spoil three hours of scripted crapola.

Blame the person or committee that booked Christina Aguilera. Everybody knows she can't resist loading every word with ten notes. Is she trying to impress someone? She got so wrapped up in technique she couldn't focus on the content. She's a fool.

The sad part is that many other singers feel it's necessary to copy her. Hopefully, that sort of vocalization will go out of style in the near future.

Modern popular music is bereft of creativity, excitement, and surprise. When was the last time we heard something new that was truely original? I think the "warblers" know this and try to compensate. It isn't working.

When Jimi Hendrix played "The Star Spangled Banner" at a public event on electric guitar, I was under the impression that put the conservative crowd off feed at the time... Back then it was pretty much unheard of.

Now you PREFER it being played by Uncle Ted over someone actually SINGING the lyrics?

Wow, how times change...

Forty years from now at Super Bowl 85, the old codgers will be saying, "I remember how beautifully Christina Aguilera sung the National Anthem all those years ago... Why can't they do it that way now?" as they listen to a series of clicks and grunts. Then at Super Bowl 125, someone will reminisce about Clicky McGrunticle's "beautiful" rendition.

The flyover was perfectly timed. Too bad. They should have come earlier and drowned out Christina.

Here are 5 little Texas girls who can "sing" the National Anthem.
Once you've heard them, you're unlikely to EVER forget them.

I agree, someone signing the national anthem tries to always "make it their own" by drawing out the words and whatever they do...it's not their song, it's ours. I was at a college basketball game saturday night and heard a better rendition of the national anthem.
