While back I asked about what turned out to be 606 IH with 2000 (model) loader. It apparently has head gasket or possibly head problems. I offered to repair it . He has cancer ,not despert for cash but could use it. While ago he asked if it was worth $1700.00 as is. Said it ran 2 years ago(just before I moved here). Is the price fair??? I know fair is what 2 people are will to settle for!! Ever if the head is cracked, which is possible is it worth the price. Tires are 50% is inside, hoods should be all there. It does have a ta, some recent post suggest itwas hydrolic ta. Could the tractor be some type of hydro-static??

That tractor was Nebraska tested in 1962. Ih favorite of the day was the 706 and 806 real poplar tractors. Not much information out there but ih book list the 606 as partial power shift 10 speed. I am thinking that just means it had a TA. As to price when you go to over 40 year old tractor it is just what a willing purchaser is willing to pay for the worth. The desiel used a

from your description, i'd give the guy $2000. i'd feel better under the circumstances of the guy's situation, plus the price is still reasonable for a tractor/loader needing a little work.
606 was conventional transmission with 5 speed forward , 1 reverse. If TA equipped , then 10 and 2. Mechanical TA is like SMTA, 400, 450 , 560 etc. Mechanical TA tractor engines can be towed/rolled off started unlike the hydraulic TA found in 706 series and up. For $1700... BUY IT !!!

If you get it, and fix it, while you are at it, put a real good block heater in it. Not good starters when cold.
