hoe won't work

just wondering if anyone has had this problem, my tc40 new holland backhoe will not work but the front loader is working fine. do they both work off the same pump? and could the cold themps have anything to do with it not moving when operating the controls?

Oh! that's not what I was expecting I thought maybe you was Leroy from Detroit having some problem with some of your shall we say "employees"

(quoted from post at 13:06:55 02/06/11) tried to and they are on well. the backhoe moves slightly but is slow and has no power.

First it would not work, now it moves slow.

I would still disconnect and reconnect. You have reduced flow, most likely at a connection.

Change the hyd oil to the ford brand for it and then change the oil filter for the hyd. They are very fussy. I think they need ford 334. If you don't use it much they get a little water in them from condensation in the oil and plug the filter.

Let it run and warm up. Then see if it works properly. The control valves on my backhoe would freeze but work fine after the oil warmed up. There was no sign of water in the oil. Maybe just a tiny bit of condensation is enough to freeze it or reduce flow through the couplers or valve. Dave

thanks for the reply. i put it in the garage and ran the heater for a couple hours then took it out and warmed up the oil using the loader and still the same. maybe its still frozen in one of the valves or couplers? any other thoughts?

Warm it up really good in the garage. If something is really frozen, it will take more than couple hours to thaw it. Take the quick couplers apart and reconnect them even if they seem to be on properly. Run a blow drier over the quick couplers to help warm them up. Is there perhaps another valve that has to be switched to direct oil to the backhoe that you forget to switch? Dave

tried all above so far nothing worked. used a heat gun on couplers and valve assembly warmed up the oil and the front loader still working well but only slight movement on the backhoe.

As asked above, do you have any diverter valves or 3ph lever on?????

I think you need to talk to a dealer. They may have heard of this before. They'd probably have a hyd. tester they could hook to the quick couplers to test the flow and pressure going to the backhoe. Something is restricting flow to the backhoe. If the quick couplers are worn, they won't engage fully. Maybe one or both of them is stuck closed? I wouldn't run your machine too much cause you could damage the hyd. pump if there's a flow restriction. I'd get some steel caps for the lines(to stop oil from leaking) and take the quick couplers right off and check them. DO NOT run your machine with the lines capped or you will blow up the hyd pump. Dave

i believe the levers are all in the same position they have always been. float for the 3 pt. and i am not aware of any switch valves.

if its got a relef [sorry about spelling ]valve stuck no power then .its no lugging down motor . valve stuck .
ran a log poter once , dirty hyd had presure relef with small hole in centre would pop of the boom no power .looked bolt head 1/4 high 1 1/4 wrench head .thats give or take a bit been 20 years or more since then .remove and blow or pick out centre . just easy to do

thanks for the input i will try to remove and clean the couplers, but i don't believe it would hurt the pump if it runs with caps on because the quick connects when disengaged will act as a stop the same as a cap ( as when the backhoe is not attached ) i have called the dealer and they suggested warming the valve on the control box for the hoe , it did not work and the temps have gone up so i do not think it is frozen, rather it is probably a blockage as you suggested. thanks i will keep trying as not to have to load up and take it in to the dealer($$$$).
