Wierd Thing on a '97 Escort

I was driving this car and when accelerating to get onto the highway, it lurched and all electical power quit and then instantly came back on... I even lost the presets on the radio. I continued on to town, took care of business and then came back home. Today, I decided to try it again, and no more problems.
I"m kinda scared to use it again.
Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Chuck

Check all fuse link connections, battery grounds, and battery cables. It could also be a failing battery.
Or maybe the twilight Zone. Jim

Sometimes with a weird electrical problem you can chase it back to a ground issue. Start it up in your driveway and wiggle test the battery cables and wires. Look for loose corroded connections. Check the Power Distribution Center (PDC) under the hood for poor/loose connections also. Hope this helps. Gerard

Have to agree with the ground suggestions. Check where the battery cable is attached to the chassis. I had this problem years ago on an Escort.

Really check the battery terminals. The Mickey Mouse terminals Ford used in those years seem prone to trouble. Had problems with favorite son's 99' Escort and my 97' F-150. I finally replaced the terminals on both vehicles with the old style lead "universal cable ends" from NAPA. I installed these and cleaned the battery posts and coated them with Nolox electrical grease. No issues so far.

I had a similar problem with a 97 GMC Jimmy but it would only do it for an instant every two or three weeks. A new ignition switch cured that.
