OT henry golden boy rifle question

I purchased a 22 mag. Henry golden boy rifle for my dearest friend. It came with the plain brass reciever and you have to order the engraved brass reciever and swap them out your self. Has anyone here done this befor and have any advise for me? They sent instructions but nothing beats first hand experience. This gun is sharp and I dont want to do something dumb and scuff it up with my two left hand.

A friend of mine bought two like that and we disassembled them for him to have it laser engraved with combat helicopters, he is presenting them to his two sons who are both in the service now. Just take care, keep up with the parts and don't let a long time elapse before putting it back together. Paul

I have never been into guns much, I have left that department up to my two brothers.

However somewhere out there is a Henry rifle and a pistol and I would love to have. The pistol had the initials R.R.D. on the handle, the Henry rifle probably little different than others.

They belonged to my gg uncle who was murdered in Montana in 1864. He, Rudolph Dorsett, and John White attempted to bring in a man to stand trial for horse theft among other charges. The man managed to get untied and killed both.

If you have interest I've provided a link to a history of the event.

I don't have any experience with your rifle, but the first thing you should do is buy a proper set of gunmaker's screwdrivers. You can buy a cheap set for under 20 bucks that will do the job; most sporting goods stores carry them. These have hollow-ground bits in all the right sizes. A regular screwdriver will ding up your screws and are likely to slip and scratch the brass side plates.

I haven't changed any receivers on them. But, I've got three of the new Henrys and really like them. I had to call the factory for one that came with a bent rear sight. I was very impressed with their customer service. A person that speaks English answered the phone - in the USA. Very friendly and helpful and apologetic. They offered to fix IF I sent the rifle back in - or send me the new parts. I opted for the new parts and they sent me two free Henry hats besides. I don't wear hats, but do appreciate their good service. I hope they manage to keep going. I am very impressed with the company.
