Ice has brought Dallas/Ft. Worth to a standstill. Our Offices are closed again for the third straight day. Low Tues nite was the coldest in 20 yrs. Rolling power black outs due to overloads and boat loads of wrecks. This hit Monday nite. Tues morning, there were 249 wrecks in Dal/Ft.Worth area.

DFW Airport was completely closed for about half of Tuesday until they got the runways de-iced. Most flights were canceled because the wind was too strong (gusts over 40) to de-ice the planes. News said over 10,000 flights canceled nationwide because of the storm.

Winds took a piece of siding off the house. I"ll wait for much warmer temps to fix it.

Roads don"t look that bad today. Really surprised the office is closed again.

We"ve had three days of napping and watching old movies. We"re snug and warm. Animals here are all ok. Captured the barn cats and shut them in the tack room. Dogs are in the garage. Won"t know about the horses until Sat - they"re at the farm in Mt. Pleasant.

Oh yeah, they"re predicting snow tonight. Temp this morning is 17. If we get snow, it will stick and offices will probably be closed again tomorrow. Forecast says we won"t get above 32 until Sat.

Vendors for the Superbowl (restaurants, etc) are all crying because no one is out spending money.

We won"t head for the farm until Sat afternoon. Not much we can do there, but need to check on the house, shop, & horses.

sounds like a big mess, on thinking, i relaized we humans are the only member of the animal species that is not smart enough to hole up during bad weather , for some reason we thing we need to be out in it going someplace

Sounds like you're having it tough.

Here with the temp -2 this morning and 8 inches of snow on the ground, I'm just thankful we don't have it near as bad as folks farther north. I was out inspecting houses yesterday when the temp was +7.

Our daughter is a paralegal and Office Manager for a real estate title company in Washington DC. They had two inches of snow one day about a month ago, and a couple of the younger employees wanted to go home because of the snow.

Amy told them, "Look, the boss is from Minnesota, our staff attorney is from Ohio, and your Office Manager is from Nebraska. We don't go home for 2" of snow".

They say in Topeka it is -8, suppose to get to 20 today since the wind turned to the south. Been feeding cattle alright, but where there is bare ground (like country roads) its icy. About lost the feed truck a few times. The wife feeds the cats everyday, but the barn is their home. Somebody needs some winter cats shipped down to them.

Here in north central Ohio we really haven't had much snow most of it missed us. Right now we have BAD ice ! Low was 2* this morning. Major roads the salt crews keep them fairly decent. I have not had any problems getting to work. Parking lots are terrible. Yesterday UPS was not picking up or delivering. Several in other areas around us are without power.

I'm west of Ft. Worth. We still got 4+ inches on the ground. No ice just snow. Temp was 9 night before last and 10 last night. The highest temp I've seen the last two days is 18. I don't remember weather like this since 1949. Usually hits and warms right up and the snow melts, not this time. In 49 US 80, now I20 was closed for the better part of 3 days, course in them days Hwy Dept. didn't have the equipment to clear the roads and there wasn't a steady stream of 18 wheelers to beat the snow off the road. We didn't have Gobal warming in those days to keep us warm either.

and all the self made expert climatoligists on here, open your eyes, we are seeing more extreme weather world wide, something is differen't and record polar melts catches my attention

I'm going out again in a minute to work in 15F temps, then add wind chill. Up on a Genie boom connecting wires and calibrating fire alarm beam detectors for open wharehouses.
Driving to work this morning after the snow had drifted from ditch across the center line 1-2 ft deep. The ploughs have pushed the snow back into 6ft high banks and have both lanes open most places.

We have about 2 foot of snow and it was -10 last night. Its +4 now and the sun is shining in central Missouri.I havent seen this much snow on the ground for a long, long time.At least the groundhog didnt see his shadow.

I seen on the news that you folks got it bad over there in DFW.

I was close to Mt. Pleasant yesterday ( Gilmer, Gladewater, Daingerfield), and they're all clear of ice & snow.
So all your farm probably has is maybe some ice on your ponds. Fortunately, we only got rain over here in ETX.

If you had any palm trees set out, they may have gotten blasted by the cold. I went by a few palm trees that have turned brown. But as long as the center of them hasn't gotten killed, they will come out of it this spring.

I guess we'll see what this next weather system has in store for us. :?

If that groundhog had any sense at all, he would have stayed inside his warm burrow and laughed at the dumb humans out in the cold trying to get him to come out. :D

Pat
Did you forget 1983 ???? 13 days in a row below freezing in N Texas. Lakes and stock ponds froze deep enough for ice skating.

(quoted from post at 12:04:25 02/03/11) North Texas icy for the superbowl, proves that god hates the cowboys.

Heyseed
Dang I missed something as I didn't know the Cowboys were playing in this years Superbowl!!!!!!!!!! I thought they couldn't play good enuf for Superbowl.

Nancy, I'm about 200 miles south of you in the Conroe area. I'm a substitute teacher at one of the area high schools. I have a job scheduled for tomorrow to cover for one of the tennis coaches who has a tournament. One tournament was canceled yesterday (16 degrees)and I'm expecting all schools in the area to be cancelled tomorrow. They are predicting three plus inches of snow, sleet and freezing rain by late tonight and early tomorrow. There is probably nothing more dangerous than a school bus driven by a Texan on snow and ice. This is pretty flat country down here but most of these bus drivers have no experience in snow and ice. I've driven a school bus in snow and it got a little squirrely at times. There will probably see a near total shut down of Houston tomorrow. Continental Airlines has already announced that they are suspending flights as of 3 PM today. I don't know what we'd do if we had any real winter.

We are in central OK. Was -8* this AM , but we live in a low area , that makes a diff.Had about 12" , but drifted bad. Pushed snow for 3 hrs on Wed. with tractor and blade. Suppose that has something to do with us leaving Wi. 10 yrs. ago ?.As long as we did not loose power we can get along OK. Wife s work place in OKC was closed for 2 days . She made it in late this AM. Interstate was so - so . clint

Feb 2nd observance ritual is the eating of pork sausage---it is GROUND HOG after all. Got to work on that pun, only anather day or so to try it. RN.

I have to be honest. I really didn't know they had a dome. A friend just told me that at lunch time. I thought: "Oh well, no one (except Thurlow) ever reads my posts anyway". Needless to say, I have never been a cowboys watcher and the last time I remember seeing them play was against Green Bay when it was 219 below zero with 20mph wind. I watched them whimper off the field with their little tails between their legs and never thought about them again.

Jim, Yes I remember 83 and it's only been about 5 years since I had 3 degrees--killed some of my Crype Myrtles. What I was refering to is all of the ice. Usually when we get snow, it warms up the next day and thaws. I have had lots of snow for three days and it hasn't ever startet to thaw yet.
