We got about 1/2 in. of ice here in S.E. Indiana . I had put out enough round bales that I did nt need to try to get out Tuesday but had to go yesterday . I have a hard enough time walking on dry ground I sure did nt like the Idea of hitting the ice . I took a old pair of leather boots and screwed drywall screws down through the soles around the edges and it worked like a charm . Never even sliped the first time but the floormat in the truck kept getting hungup on them . Put the Tire chains on the 4x4 and the chores went pretty smooth . We have a couple in. snow on the ice now and it actualy gives ya a little traction . Everybody be careful and check on your naighbors , It will be march before ya know it .

My neighbors 5 year old twins were always getting their electric JD Gators stuck when it was muddy. He ran a bunch of drywall screws in the rear tires---no more stuck, at least for a while!

I"m about ready to do the same here in SE Indiana. Been looking at the old boots just for that reason. Good to hear it works.
Right now, can"t hardly brak through the ice crust on the snow - just skate on top.

I have a heavy soled pair of work boot that I put short sheet metal screws with the flanged head in the bottoms several year ago. The head catch the ice but you can walk on solid stuff too. The screws are only about 1/4 long with a 1/4 hex head. Saw the idea in a climbing book.
