cracked skin

Hi guys-during the winter I get cracked skin on the end of my fingers and some times it gets really tender.Had a friend tell me to put "super glue" right in the crack and let it heal.Thought he was nuts but tried it and it works well. The pain went right away and they heal good.Just passing on a little advice that worked for me.Thanks

Painters tape, blue 3M kind, works well, 1 wrap to hold a split, also good to work in some lotion on the tips, and or leave the upper layer of the dead skin on the crack, seems to protect it a little, from spitting more, I get em on the corners of my thumbs, day like today dried em out but good, 1st the lotion at night, sometimes a rubber or similar glove that does not breath, helps during the day.

Use superglue quite a bit for little slits and owies. As for the cracked skin, take care of the cause and you won't have to treat the symptom. Use hand lotion or cream first thing in the morning and before you go to bed. During the day as needed if your hands get beat up. Makes greasy hands a lot easier to wash clean also. Vitamin E helps also.
I keep a bottle of cornhuskers lotion stashed wherever it may be needed.

Even though I wear gloves where possible, my hands do suffer the general abuse of the weather and working in a shop, handling oil, parts cleaner fluid and paint materials. I suffered for years with cracked and sore fingers in the winter time, then I was told about LOTIL, bought from Vermont Country Store. It is the BEST product I have ever used for cracked fingers! I just use once a day - in the evening after a shower, when hands still a little damp (locks in moisture). When cold weather arrives, at the first sign of a cracked finger, I start using Lotil, it works to prevent the cracked fingers. If already cracked and sore Lotil will sooth and heal very quickly!

The greatest lube I have ever known for dry hands is.........Drum roll please........Olive oil. Works wonders, No more cracked hands and fingers.

Get the good udder balm that smells like wintergreen and is light blue color, one or two times a day works great.

When I had my one milk cow in the seventies had a can of Bag Balm setting on the shelf in the barn. I was younger then no cracked skin. A few year ago seen it still setting on the self in the barn and now use it on feet and and hands. It turned dark, but it works.

I used to use it too as I was a letter carrier and the paper mail seemed to suck all of the moisture from my hands.

I have now switched to New Skin liquid bandage and think it is probably a safer product to use. For me, several layers work best.

here in our shop especially, our detail guy, all use a honey and beeswax product from Randol Honey Farm, Winterset Iowa.

Not only super glue is good for cracked skin, my son had the top of his ear cut off (1/4 sliver)while I was stationed in Frankfurt. Took him to into the dispensary along with the piece. The Medic cleaned up everything and pulled out a tube of super glue and reattached. He was 6 years old then and now he's 33. Still see the scare.

I use super glue all the time. My hands are always damp or wet when at work and the glue stays on just fine. Cheap and the easiest way to deal with that problem.

As a preventive measure, nobody is too tuff to use hand/skin lotion.

For cow milkers, We use urine from a pregnant cow. Don't believe it, ask a pharmacist. Something about the nitrogen in it that has a healing effect. Same with horse urine. Neighbor has 50 brood mares that they sell urine from for some type of medicine for women. Quite a procedure in collecting it.

I use Sno-Seal, or a product like it with Lanolin and Bees-Wax..works Great...and it will water-proof your hands too..
For sorting mail, there were times I had to wear latex gloves over nite, to let the snow-seal absorb in and soften the cracks..
Made your fingers just tacky enough to sort mail.!

I use it on Warm boots and soak it in (all it will absorb) and never have a problem with leather getting stiff or cracking..
Won't damage leather like neats-foot will..
Makes them like the finest harass leather and it will polish (Bees-Wax)..!!

Sounds funny, but I was told olive oil also removes paint from your hands. I havent tried it on paint yet, but I got liquid nails all over my fingers the other day, I remembered the olive oil and used it, worked great for removing the glue.

I"ve used Super-Glue for years.
My wife watches the "Today" show and she told
me some guest on there a week or so ago recommended it also.

Buy a can of "Bag Balm". Green can made in Lyndonville, Vt. Not expensive. Coat hands, pull on cheap cotton gloves, Leave on overnight. Works excellent, Just ask any cow. Have a Goodun.
