Small tractor backhoe

Anybody here have a three point backhoe on a 100 horse tractor? What are some things to consider? I don"t want to spend $6000 on something I"ll be disapointed in. Thanks for your ideas.

only way i'd go with a 3 point hoe is if it was self contained with its own pto powered pump.

Mine's on a compact tractor but it's on rails under the tractor, not 3 pt mount. Works great, for a small hoe. A friend has a 50 hp Ford and his 3 pt hoe is a lot closer to the performance of a standard backhoe.

Both do what they were designed to do. Both use the tractor's hydraulic pump, no problem. If you've got adequate hydraulic flow, and enough hoe for your needs, you'll be happy. If you buy a too-small hoe, that's what you'll have.

Good luck. Can't get much of a standard hoe for $6k around here. I sold a pretty worn out 580CK last year for nearly that much.

i cant relate on the 3 point hoe first hand but i had a man i have known for 30 years try to sell me one off a larger kubota, fully self contained, it came on a new tractor he bought he already had a old case backhoe on the place, he told me it works, but just felt "loose" compared to the old case which was made as a backhoe, he offered it to me for 3,000, used 2 times

That's the best way to buy one, but those opportunities are rare. Mine came from a Ford tractor dealer, he'd brought it in on a tractor he was sure he had sold. Unfortunately for him, the buyer decided to take only the tractor. The hoe sat on the lot until the paint faded.

That's when I got it for $2k, teeth were still sharp but didn't look new any more. A whole lot tighter than the Case 580CK I sold. Mine paid for itself on the first job I had for it, been offered $3500 for it but it's too handy to have around.

Soil type? I have a Deere 10A on a 1640 and with a 12" bucket. It will dig into and curl a full bucket of blue clay but has little to spare in such conditions. Same outfit plays with a 3ft grave bucket in sand, gravel or loam.
A three point hitch hoe while way better than a shovel. Is a flopping wobbling rig of a thing.
Fixed hitch is way preferred.
Type of tractor? Some have great and not so great hydraulics?
