OT, But...shelf life of K1(kerosene)?

With this snow/ice storm coming & worrying some about a power outage, we`re wondering how old it can be to still be used in a heater? 1 of the either round or rectangle type. This is for my mother & she has guessed it may actually be 10 years old....thats how long Dad`s been gone. Now I AM going to go prepared w/our 5 gal. can & tools to take it apart to clean it! Just wondering if maybe shes got "fine wine" in her K1 jug....lol...figer thats NOT the case....but. Any & ALL advice would be much appreciated by me....& Mom! TY YT

The hardware store 5 gal cans of Kero are not marked with an expiry date. At least the can sitting here doesn't have one.
If it is a wick type heater I would just use it and burn it up. If you have to pump it you might want to filter it into the tank thru cheesecloth or something.

If the self life is gone it just won't burn worth a darn. I would say three years.

It's a distillate fuel. It keeps forever. I have a fifteen year old diesel (heating oil) fuel in a truck and it runs fine.

I believe they found some kerosene in King Tut's burial chamber. They figured he would need it in the afterlife when driving his Mercedes. It's all documented in the hieroglyphics.

Yes, Thanks to all that replied!!! Cleaned up the Kero-sun radiant 6 heater & got her fired up....I DO still wonder if its doing what its suppose to...BTU wise.....THANK YOU again, who responded!
