computers as an implement (or tool)

Do those of you who are bonafide farmers consider your computer as an essential "implement" or "tool"?

In other words would you be making less profit if you didn't have your computer for weather checks, market checks, buying supplies, selling crops and livestock, etc.

Along the same line is your computer a laptop that you take along in tractor, truck, pickup, car, combine, etc.

I certainly consider it a tool, but a necessity? Good question. I would feel lost without it at this point.
I will probably quit before it gets to the point of having to lug one around everywhere I go. When I cover every acre myself at a minimum four times a year(tillage, planting, spraying, harvesting) I have a pretty good idea what's going on.
But if you're big enough you hire help, and have custom work done, I can see where the data would help.

Making and selling horse hay is all we do, the first thing I do ever morning is check the weather for our area as well as the whole USA and sometimes even Canada. Usually check 3 or4 times a day and look at fronts, and all patterns to try and figure out what coming our way. And also check out YT. I don't have a lap top and don't have any plans to get one. But to answer you question, Yes it's an essential tool, couldn't live without one.

I use my computor regularly for weather, checking for parts, pricing equiptment, searching auctions etc.. but use my driod phone for getting my mobile market updates 5 times a day, looking up other things but don't consider them a nessesity. They sure are great for making life easier though. I can search a little and get the info I need fairly quick. I got into p.c's for mainly doing books and have yet to use one for that job. I still use the 'ol pen and paper.
