im going to post this here as well on the n forum as i need a quick response, im working on a 1946 2n ford, it has been converted to 12volts using a old style ford alternator[ external regulater] i need a wiring diagram that will work for this, it doesnt charge and i need to see how it should look so i can figure out where somebody went wrong, thanks, eric

Ford alternator with a separate regulator usually has this: From the alternator -

The big output terminal goes to A on the regulator.

Stator/Neutral terminal goes to S on the regulator.

Fields goes to F on the regulator.

Note the regulator also has an I terminal that gets hooked to an indicator light and IGN switch for power.

thanks jdemaris, i will go look at the thing and see what the wireing looks like, if not this maybe i can change it to this and have it working

I originally (and CRUDELY) drew that diagram in Paint and posted it to THIS site and the site Jon Hagen found it on is "Malaysia Mini Lovers") about Mini Coopers, perhaps???) and now he's linked it back to here!

I uploaded it to my ISP's server 29-Aug-2005 @ 17:24.

LOL, Yes, the WWW really has made the world very small.
I paid no attention where the diagram came from, only that it was correct for a Ford external regulator alternator on a system with a voltmeter/ammeter. :)
