I have a pin hole in one of the tubes of the radiator. The radiator is not all in that great shape. Needs replacing but due to funding I need to run it one more year. If I don't drain the antifreeze what is the best sealer to use. I have heard of using black pepper. What about that?

stop at napa and get a tube of radiator leak stop, the powder one. its about the size of a roll of quarters. get the tractor warmed up and then dump it in the cooling system. if the radiator is pretty well rotted out, leave the radiator cap loose when you run it so it doesnt build up pressure. keep your eye on the coolant temps.

If you can identify the leaker, and its on the outside, you can pry some fins out of the way, and pinch off the tube, cut, fold over, and solder both ends shut. If you do not have the experience, or don't want to try, either of the other 2 stop leaks might work, or bars leaks, a liquid stop leak might be a temp fix.

My JD 70 has black pepper in the radiator. It was leaking so bad you couldn't keep water in it. I asked a couple of members of the antique tractor club I belong to and both said they have tractors that have had black pepper in them for several years and no problems. If you are working the tractor HARD, not sure how it would be, but for light work and occasional use, it works fine. I pull a 4 row planter, sprayer and run a auger with mine, no problems or regrets. Thanks Guys, I think I'll try the black pepper can't hurt anything. If it doesn't work I go to Napa. Thanks Again

Are you guys putting him on? Like the black pepper I put on my eggs in the morning? Does that really work? Or is that some kind of term for something else?!

No Jay Not putting you on-- Old fella I knew had an old farm truck, radiator was giving him problems and he dropped in a slimy egg white in rad when it got hot enough it cooked in the tube.
I don't think id use it on something running on the road though.

Black pepper worked for me it tends to go to the leak and stays somehow.

You want the coarse ground black pepper. Not the fine ground pepper. It will plug small holes. I also have smeared silicone on bigger holes to stop them from leaking.
