Although it's not a giant factor, I would make sure the E-brake works. They are a bad design and work great when they work, but you drive a few feet with it on and it practically ruins it. Have to split the tractor apart to fix it. I am thinking I have heard the electronics are lacking a little on the older models such as 1994 and older, but can't tell you for sure on that. I have a '96 5230 which is basically the same less turbo, and love it. Good luck. Bob

Get on it and drive it. See if the powershift operates smoothly and the reverser is smooth when shuttling from forward to reverse. Make very sure the parking break is solid and not adjusted to it's end. To renew it, the tractor has to be split. The engine should be no issue, but open the hood and remove the side panals and look for leaks in hoses around the trans and engine. There were some issues with the electronic controls, clutch and shifting, most of them were cured when the 5200s came out. A good local CaseIh dealer will be an asset to you. Good luck. Acg.

Yup, I just checked this is still the Tractor Talk Discussion Board and from what I am told a CIH 5240 is a tractor..

You're asking about a specific brand and model of tractor. It WOULD make the most sense to post your questions under the forum for that specific brand and model of tractor. Absolutely no reason for you to take exception to someone suggested that. Dave

Very good choice if thats the size your in need of. 5100/Early 5200 series tractors had no neutral in the shuttle shift, but after SN# JJF1030000 the neutral position was added. There was much less wiring in the later models. Mandatory updates consisting of all new sensor switchs, and relays corrected most all problems that existed in the earlier ones. The simplest way to prevent E-Brake failure is when you apply it, pull it tight, so when you or anyone else grts in to move, it refuses till its released. If its too sudden in shuttling back and forth, its most likely modulator valve needing cleaned. (Not a major repair.) We have many out with 8000 to one with over 14000 hours on it, and nothing needing done to engine, transmission, or rearend. Goon Luck Don

I get your point but why do they call this the Tractor Talk Discussion Board if I cant Talk about a Tractor?

it was his choice and free to exercise it.
May have been better received if the last 8 items were not appended.seemed unnecessary.

yeah.. some folks get so carried away with the OT stuff they forget the actual title.. haha.
Thanks. RIP thread.
