Install a crankshaft driven pump at the front of the tractor like the loaders had than add a resvorie and than add all the valves you need. You need to make sure you have enough G.P.M and preussure to power the splittler and the crankshaft pump might be the only way to be sure the log splitter has enough power to do its job. Armand

Yes noo and sort of. You can tap into the test port and chain the lift arms down but it would be very very slow since the N has a low gpm pump

You'd be much better off getting a log splitter with its own engine. Waiting on a system run by your tractor would be like watching paint dry. Dave

thanks,
we deal in tractors everyday, but not this old,,
i was sure it could be done,,, i have seen it on other later models with front crank mounted pumps, and they seem to work fine....
thanks again for the imputs.

No if you want to split very fast or hard wood. I have seen several around here with PTO driven pumps that where made for three point back hoes. They work very well.

Generally it's a lot more efficiant fuelwise to just run an 8 hp Briggs or Honda instead of that 23 hp 4 cylinder flathead. Though with an oversized engine driven pump or pto driven pump you might get a reasonable efficiancy. An N would be a better than average candidate for a pto driven pump as many of them had that Sherman Overdrive transmission in them. Oversize the pump and speed up the pto so you can operate the hyds effectively at 30 - 40% throttle. You might be okay with that.

Remotes and hydraulic.
The N series while advanced for the late 1930's. They can lack features and functions in 2011.

My brother has a 9N (I think), and he added a remote for his log splitter. He drilled and tapped into the cover below the seat for his pressure supply. Has a valve to switch between the lift and the remote.

His tractor may be a 2N - I remember discussing it with him, but have forgotten the year it was built.
