Is the 6V-53 the biggest Aluminum block that Detroit made

I've found references to a handful of 8V53 aluminum engines being built, but having that much power in an aluminum engine was a baaaaaad idea at that time. It didn't take long for Detroit to shelve that particular engine. I think the few that were produced are still somewhere out in the world though.

As for an aluminum 71 series, I have no info. Somebody else may know more on that.

In high school diesel shop we had 25 6-71 detroits. Gray Marine used them in old landing crafts. It was deafening when we had them all running up against the govenor at once.
 
8V-53 used in WWII mine sweeper is the largest I have heard of. Team Diesel is supposed to have 4 of them.
