Garage door opener

My tractor is in the garage, and my Wayne-Dalton garage door opener won't allow me to open the door. I've pulled the cable to unlactch the mechanism, but it is still locked up. Thanks....

When you say locked up, I kind of think you are refering to the opener? If so, there probably is some binding, or the chain is jumping the sprocket.

Please post a little more information.

If you are refering to the door, and it is not froze down, check for door binding, a broken spring, cable jumped the drum, or the door is caught under the opening on one corner. Rollers often catch on a bolt also.

If you have the door opener unhooked from the door, and you are not able to lift it, I would third the frozen down idea. Otherwise, it could be week/broken spring(s) as well.

It's not frozen down. It's an I-Drive. The opener is on the main shaft. The spring is built into the shaft. The opener mounts above the door on the header and the spring shaft. Don't ever buy one. There are new and improved models, but don't know if they're any better.

If its not froze down maybe the spring is broke. If it is broke you probably would not be able to open it anyway without help. The spring will break when its just sitting there after they get a little older with regular use. Mine are all 20 years old and one by one they have been breaking. Not too hard to replace but be careful when winding it back up.

I'll bet it's frozen to the floor. Take a pry bar and try to GENTLY lift the door, starting at one end and working your way to the other.

I had the same thing happen to my door last winter. Frost upheaval caused my apron to slope slightly towards to door, causing water to run under the seal and freeze. This year I've kept my apron cleared of snow and haven't had any problems.

I had a garage door that had a real close clearance to the header above it. It bowed a little in the middle and caught on the header and would not go up. That is just a thought as it was hard to see where it was catching.

When freezing down is a problem, spray the bottom of the door with Pam or some kitchen non-stick pan spray every few weeks. Won't degrade the seal strip, and neither food nor ice will stick to it. If I have neglected the spray, I have good luck tapping horizontally right where the ice is. My 14'x20' door has enough play to release. PS Don't let the door company try to sell you replacement plastic rollers like they tried on me. Get the good metal ones.
