Looking for a small cultivating tractor for a very small garden.

Like the little IH offset tractors for this task with front mount cultivators.

Thoughts on which is the best?

you need to ask StateofJefferson ,who is here on this site to show a picture of the nice cub that he has with cultivators on it he showed it to me when I asked him,

They all would make a good cultivating tractor. The Cub may be your best bet because it is the smallest of the bunch if you have a small garden. A 130 and 140 will cost a lot more money because they are "newer" tractors but they also have hydraulics. I personally would buy what ever is easiest to find in your area and could afford.

cub would be great, some have hydraulics too, mine does, the a and hundreds have more power but are bigger tractors too, in a garden bigger gets too big fast, the cub makes a excelent cultivating unit, kind of what they were designed for, i have a regular cub, 1948 model and while i use it to mow with right now its being used to pull my feed trailer, which weighs almost a ton when filled with water, its pushing the cub's limits but its doing the job, my ford is broke down and my jd is just too large to do the job

For a small garden I'd go witha Cub.
I had about 3 acres planted last year, and cultivated it all with my Cub. Planning on going to about 6 acres this year, and will either buy another, or get a 3point cultivator for my M.

A late model cub would do nicely for an average Garden. I started farming with 80 acres and a B Farmall. I did a lot with that little tractor.I plowed some with an old Ih 2/12" plow, pulled 2 / 6' sections of drags, Planted with a 290 JD planter [got a kink in my neck from that deal Ha],Mowed set aside acres for Farm program,Pulled wagons and just general all around good little tractor. I had and used it for 10 years and traded it for a R120 IHC pick up truck.

For a small garden I would look for a cub with cultivators and a drawbar kit. If you look you can find used implements.

I currently have a 140 of my Dads that I have pieced together, but was going to get a cub with cultivators and a tractor (3 point)for mowing.

With the drawbar added correctly, some take 2 brackets and special bolts you can pull a small cart or ATV implements.

My uncle had 2 cubs for cultivating, carrying sticks and moving tobacco to the barn (1500-1800 lbs) One was originally a sickle mower for the hayfield for the cows and horses that did the farmwork.

Got both a cub and 140. The cub is best by far for a small garden. The 140 is best for heavier work. Joe

A IH Cub will work fine "IF" your ground is not hard. They where only eleven PTO horsepower. I have used 140s, 130s and Cubs. I would never own a Cub to use. The 130 and 140 extra horse power (21 pto) makes them much more usable. Plus the price is not that much different between a Cub and 130. The 140 will bring a little more.

I have and use everything from a Cub to an M. For up to 5 acres that Cub will be the tractor of choice.

I have brought 2 cubs,,, Don't know why,,, they are underpowered and pert near useless. I have a 100 and 140 that are hard to beat cultivating. If I have the need they will plow, disc, mow right along with most 25/30HP tractors. I never have figured out why a cub brings $2K are more,,, maybe they don't fit my rump,,, maybe I don't need a toy to just ride the back 40 on. Theirs no comparison between a cub and a 100/130/140,,, why buy a tractor that is underpowered to the point its takes all its got to load and unload off the trailer

One thing I know is you will never be stuck with a 100/130/140,,, they are in demand, they have a good reputation, they are more versatile, they will do more than struggle to scratch the ground, they hold their value, Parts are easier to come by, they are EZ to work on.

Their are a lot of farmers around here that farmed 100 acres are more around here with them, all said and done they will still fetch about what they paid for them... Folks will line up to battle over them
