Ebay/payPal question

I've been on ebay a LONG time, don't use it much any more 'cause of all the changes they've made.

When paying with PayPal, I almost always select "Instant transfer from bank account #XXXXXX".

Bill me later, ECHECK and credit card have been the other funding option.

I bought a tool about 2 weeks ago and PayPal worked as it always had, allowing me to pay by instant transfer from the bank account.

I have a separate account and only transfer enough into it to make the payments so there's NO way I can be scammed out of any more money than that.

This morning, I bought a much-needed part and went to PayPal to pay for it and the "instant transfer from checking account" option does NOT appear, yet the same account is still list as being able to be used with ECHECK. I emailed them to ask what is going on, got a computer generated reply they'll get back to me within 72 hours.

In the meantime, has anyone else had this happen.... I've had no letters or email from them notifying of any change in account status, nor has there been any problem with the bank account.

PayPal pulls that stunt every so often. If you really dig, you will find the options you want. If you can't find it, just contact the seller and ask if he has a payment option other than PayPal. Most of them do.

Do not select that "e-check" option, because then there is a waiting period of several days for the e-check to clear, and the seller will not ship until it HAS cleared. Very few ebay sellers want anything to do with the e-checks.

I have no idea but I have carried a positive balance in my Paypal acct for years and I don't know as I've ever lost any of it yet. But of course I don't keep very good records. When the balance gets too high I transfer some of it to my checking.

Don't know how much money was exchanging, however they held a payment of mine for 2-3 weeks a year or so ago to make sure it cleared from my checking account. Had no history of anything but good payments.

Meanwhile of course, they had my money! :) Multiply that times a few million accounts and you will be thinking about opening a your own paypal business!!!

I try to avoid them, concerns me that they do everything like a bank, however are not a bank. If I must use I force it from my credit card,,, that is regulated.

Yes, use your credit card, BUT, if you have a balance in your PayPal account, they WILL NOT let you use a credit card, which is exactly the reason I do not ever carry a balance.

WHY would you trust those bastages by leaving money in the account?

TOO many horror stories about someone bitching about an item they purchased from you and them pulling the money or freezing the account.

I've never had it happen, but apparently that can be a NIGHTMARE!

The CREDIT CARD I have on file with them expires the last of FEBRUARY (OBVIOUSLY like 40 days from now) so they won't let me make an instant transfer from my BANK ACCOUNT, although I can use that very CREDIT CARD to fund the transaction.

Go figure!

I have never sold on e-bay but have some items I thought about listing. The question I have is how do I get my money when the purchaser pays by pay-pal? I don't want to let it sit in my account until I use it all up on something I really did not want, just to get my money.

I order a couple tools from Canada Jan 16, got them today 21st,, funds were drawn out of my bank account... has always worked well for me.

I have a separate checking account set up at my bank which is linked to the PayPal account. I transfer the money to the bank account, then withdraw it as soon as it's available.

The other option is a PayPal debit card. I had one, never got it properly activated, gave up and burned it!

paypal sucks

I have kept a healthy positive paypal account for several years and have never lost a penny. I sell my products and bill with a paypal invoice which works with a click of the mouse. Works like a charm. Safest, quickest and easiest system I have found. Small percentage of mine has anything to do with ebay. I think I sold about 20 bucks worth of stuff on ebay. I buy truck parts thru Advance auto for one and pay with paypal. Within an hour you can go to the store and pick it up. I just bought disc blades from a dealer at a better price than I could find locally and had them the next day UPS using paypal. I call, they email me an invoice while I am on the phone, I click pay now and put in my password and the parts are shipped the same day. I will have end mills Monday that I used paypal yesterday to buy.
More and more companys are accepting paypal payments and I will chose to use them. No checks to wright or stamps to buy. Instant paper work in the computer to move into the accounts with out shredding any paper.
A bunch of shysters for sure in saving me all that book work and lost sales slips.

Seems to me if your PayPal is backed by a devoted checking account that is emptied on a regular basis, you might be setting yourself up for NSF charges when eBay wants their commission. Or, should a sale go bad, and eBay invokes their Buyer Protection Plan on behalf of the buyer of your merchandise.

eBay may be willing to work with you but the banks are now hard-nosed. They no longer cut any slack and enjoy collecting the $30-40 NSF fee if you are not a high dollar balance account.

Here's paypal's phone number and address; 1-402-935-7733.
Paypal P.O. Box 45950
Omaha, Ne. 68145

I have used paypal for over ten years. This year I purchased something with my paypal debit card on line and had to give the number out. Well they charged me two more times after the initial purchase. I deactivated my card immediately and paypal gave me my money back that the seller took from me. You're insured with paypal. As for withdrawing your money out of paypal, I have a sepreate bank account just for paypal and I have the debit card or sometimes I just request them to send me a check and about 5 days I get the check. There is a $1.50 cost to process the check. So if you have $50 in your paypal account and request a check for $50 they will take out the $1.50 and the check they send you will be for $48.50. If you sell on ebay paypal is almost a must but not recquired. I wouldn't do with out it.

Bank treats me well. Account has overdraft protection = no nsf charges or bounced checks, just interest on any money that is ever needed, and only for a short time.

In short, just the opposite of paypal!
