central Iowa repair shops

I've got an Oliver 770 that I'm wanting to get some engine work done on. Anywhere from just rings to full overhaul, won't be sure til we jump in. Anyone know of a shop in the central Iowa area that more of less specializes in tractors besides the big Red and Green dealers? I don't have the time or resources to do it myself and want it done right as it's a family tractor of sorts.

I know of a shop that will do it right, but he is more in the southwest Iowa area.

Check with your local Future Farmers of America club to see if they will do it. If you have a
Techincal School in your area they may use it as a project for a class. It will probably cost you some money do to the high cost of parts
and any machining that may be needed. Hal

Independent Repair operates out of Manning, IA. I know it's a little to the western part of the state, but he comes into this part of the state (Dallas Co.) to do service calls. Field Equipment Mechanics from Guthrie Center, IA is also a good place for Oliver machinery. Randy knows Olivers inside and out and has quite a collection. He has a service truck and makes farm calls, but also has a shop on the farm where he would do overhauls, etc. He makes trips alot to the Huxley area for a family that uses alot of Oliver/White machinery. Johnson sales in Zearing Ia are former Oliver/white dealer and still are white parts dealer . Jerry and Gene Johnson still run it they have a top Mechanic Leroy .they are as reasonable on service work as anyone around ,I have them do most of my tractor repairs .their # 641-487-7393

Hi Rich, Larry at J&L engines (319-267-2546) in Allison is my choice. He did the engine machine work on my 310 and 400 hours later all is doing great (Someone else did the assembly). He also built my Chevy truck engine to much above normal horsepower :*) . He did an awesome job balancing my Oliver too. He has a very clean shop and really good equipment and engine work is all he does.

Hi Randy, I haven't talked to you in quite awhile. I have a lot of cousins in Allison, this tractor came from an uncle's farm a couple miles south of town. I'm looking for a shop near the Des Moines area but I'll get a hold of J&L when I get back up there in a couple weeks and check them out. Thanks
