The power of a badge.

A DEA Officer stops at a ranch and talks with an old timer.
He tells the rancher"I need to inspect your ranch for illegally grown drugs."
The rancher says "ok, but don't go into the field over there" as he points out the direction.
The DEA officer explodes saying "mister. I have the authority of the federal government with me"
Reaching into his rear pocket he removes his badge and proudly displays it to the rancher.
"See this badge,this badge means I am allowed to go wherever I wish on any land. no questions asked or answers given, have I made myself clear, do you understand"?
The rancher nodded and reiterates his concern that he should not go into that field.
"see this badge" the officer shouts "This badge means I am allowed to go on any land any where, now have I made myself clear. do you understand?"
The rancher nods and goes about his business.
A short time later he hears screams and sees the DEA officer running for his life chased by a big santa gertrudis bull.

With every step the bull is gaining and it seems likely the officer will be gored before he reaches safety, the Officer is clearly terrified.
The Rancher throws down his tools, runs to the fence and yells at the top of his voice.

"Your badge,show him your @#$%&^% badge"

The longer I live, the more I realize the old sayings have real meaning, such as "respect your elders".

I have arrived at the same notion. I now know exactly what they meant when I was young and they asked me to repsect my elders.

In reality, there does seem to be a pompousness that seeps in to some that wear a badge. In those cases, I believe respect should flow in both directions. The problem is, they sometimes have the first and last word. LOL

On the subject of respect, a wise old man once told me: You can not command respect!
You have to earn it!

i dunno if its a coincidence or what...all but 1 of the guys from my high school days that useta get their butts kicked real regular joined Galveston PD...the one that didnt did a tour of Nam and was a MP after that...he was the only one with any sense.
