OT Time Warner Bowed to Public Pressure

Two weeks ago I posted a rant about Time Warner and dropping our local TV station WKTV Utica NY. I also have Road Runner and every couple days they sent me e-mails promoting their Cable news channel which covered the southern Tier, not Central NY. Every time I got a message from them I replyed with a nasty message of my own. So did lots and lots of other people. This morning WKTV was back on TW. Time Warner's turn around was not only because of disgruntled customers like me, but the local Chambers, Community Organizations and our local and state reps. This example goes to show that the will of the people can still prevail if those from the Right and those from the Left work together which happened here. Events such as what happened in AZ should be an awakining that this L-R polarization is out of hand.

News story I just read said the shooter was a lefty anarchist... why does everyone jump to conclusions about the evil conservatives?

nnalert blame most everything on the nnalert.

Seems all nnalert are way out on the Left...

But, if you put them both in a bag and tossed it in the river, we would ALL be better off...

Ron.

Politicians have been doing a very good job of polarizing the population and then are surprised when something like this happens. You still hear it everyday when politicians say "We are all for bipartisan agreements” and then quickly turn on the opposition and point fingers and place blame. Politicians have done it to themselves and it is time to change their rhetoric and actions or suffer the consequences when some half wit takes them seriously.

You are too funny!

You think "The Will of the People(TM)" had anything to do with this?

No, MONEY brought your station back, plain and simple. Time Warner and WKTV's owners were in a dispute over how much Time Warner was paying to have WKTV in their cable lineup.

WKTV's owners wanted more money. Time Warner obviously doesn't want to pay more. More money going out means less profit. Duh.

We've got the same thing going on with WUHF here in Rochester. The deadline was extended to January 15th last I checked. If they don't come to an agreement, the owners of WUHF will pull their station.

People are too dumb to realize it's the greedy media conglomerates that are trying to get a piece of Time Warner that's causing this. All they know is the cable company gives them TV, and when TV go off, it's the cable company's fault.

Now Time Warner gets to pay more for the station, and YOU get to pay more for your cable service. Hope you enjoy your local station.

Do you really believe that ill will between people of opposing political views or talk radio hosts should be blamed for the the actions of a complete whack job nutcase? How about the reports that the shooter has hounded and cyber stalked this congresswoman for 3 years, don"t you think just maybe this guy is 100% to blame for his actions?. As for political discourse, the old ""why doesn"t everybody just get along"" whine has a whole lot to do with the mess the country is in today. I vote for people to whom I believe share a similar political philosophy, I don"t want the people I vote for agreeing with the opposition. There has never been a time in our nations history when the opposing parties walked in lockstep and that fact is a major reason we have remained a free society.

I agree!
First of all, both parties as we knew them are a train wreck of dishonesty, broken promises, and total disregard for the people that vote them in and our once great Nation. The only ones that get attention once they are in office are the deep pockets that helped pay for all of the fancy anf false marketing ploys that help them get elected. They could care less about the voters that go to the booths.

Respectfully, I normally don"t get involved in these types of discussions, but I fail to see how what happened in Arizona has anything to do with politics despite the "jumping to conclusions" by the media.

Deranged people have done crazy stuff so many times here and all over the world and it has nothing to do with politics. Remember Regan getting shot, Ford getting shot at, John Lenon, Robert Kennedy, John Kennedy, Texas clock tower shooter, etc. These people were just nuts. It wan"t poltical, just the action of deranged people.

I"m not saying our politics has not gotten vitriolic. it"s just that linking this shooting to political rhetoric is a real stretch, in my opinion. Opinions are like belly buttons;everybody"s got one. This is mine on this subject.

couldn't agree more... I v*te for the person whose philosophy is closest to mine... I don't want them to compromise across the aisle. It's pretty simple really... the c*nstitution tells us how it is to be done... worked pretty well for a couple hundred years... spose it would work in the future.... if anyone would pay attention to it! JMHO...D
Had to substitute * for the "o"'s in a couple of words above to be able to submit this reply... priceless!

I absolutely hate rap music.

When some new commercials have aired using rap music I have emailed or phoned the advertiser and voiced my opinion.

I explain those liking rap are not their target audience for the product advertised and that the majority of people do not like it at all.

I really have to knock on wood, but so far every one I have called or emailed about has been removed, most within just a few days, but with one car dealer I talked to via phone it was halted immediately from further airing.

We should all feel free to voice our opinions. With the Internet often providing easy email access it is easy to do so.

So glad you got your programming back. Wish I could get back analog television. When digital works it is great, but when windy with an indoor or outdoor antenna it somehow disrupts the signals and I lose but a couple of the stations.

What burns my butt is that the internet news made a comment saying that Sarah Palin had "crosshairs" on the district of the woman that was shot. So Fooking what! So is Sarah Palin partially guilty because a wack job went nuts.?

If I tell a guy to rob a bank and he does, Am I guilty.?

Many years ago a former coworker had a shirt that had a picture of Martin L. King on it and crosshairs over King's face. The slogan on the shirt was "I have a dream"
Funny.....but......dont wear it in the inner city.

Actually yes you are guilty. You would be found guilty of conspiracy to commit robbery.

And as for the shirt, how the he77 is that funny?

Yes you are, your an accessory! I hope Sarah gets burned on this one, just shows how dumb she is. When she took the map off her website she admitted guilt.

If she were half the nnalert she claims to be, she would've had the cajones to leave the map up.

The crosshairs mark the nnalert-controlled districts that the nnalert want to take over, right? Well then, this is just a tragic coincidence and we should all be smart enough to realize that.

I thought nnalert, especially ones so far to the right as Palin, were all about being against political correctness...

The only real "public pressure" that TW would have had would be from the FCC enforcing "good faith" negotiations. A couple of hundred, or even thousand angry phone calls either to WKTV or TW from viewers would only result in the viewer getting the "blame game" from whomever answers the phone. Perhaps some political pressure would be applied locally if they are a cable monopoly and their contract is up for renewal soon, but probably not a whole lot, and TW probably would have ignored it anyway.

In reality, WKTV probably wanted "ESPN bucks", and TW didn't want to pay them anything. Somewhere in the middle they met, probably much closer to the lower end. It's probably only a pennies per subscriber imcrease, but you will pay more than that when the bill comes. Being a full power station, WKTV can force them to carry their signal ("must carry"), but can't force them to pay for it (a retransmission agreement).

Importing WBRE may have been, well, questionable at best as far as TW's legally being able to do so. They did it anyway.
