allis chalmers hay rake

I bought a Allis Chalmers hay rake today that is hooked up by 3 point or similar. Someone has cut the original hook up off and welded a modern 3 point style on it. My question is what model is it and about what year? I couldnt see a ID tag on it. I will try and post pictures tomorrow
 
Is it driven by PTO? If so, it's probably an old Allis drawn hay rake that has been modified. I never used one, but haven't heard anything bad about them.
 
The 77M was a snap coupler hitch with 2 little silly wheels on back. If it was cut up that's a shame as they are in demand....
 
It has the 2 wheels on the back and the guy did say it was a snap coupler style. I have looked for info on the web for it and seen some pictures of ones that looked the same but they didnt have a snap coupler or life pins. n
Not sure what i have yet!! But isnt this whats fun about this old stuff?!?!
 
Sounds like an original AC rake those could be either hooked up 3pt or an adpater used to work on a snap couper.Good rake if used on flat ground didn't work too well on hilly uneven ground
 
I had a guy tell me this morning at coffee that there were only 2100 of them built between 1958 and 1960. Then in 1960 they had about 700 that didnt sell and they took them apart and used parts on the ground driven models. So that means there were only about 1400 ever sold! Kind of a rare piece i guess!

Sorry I got side tracked. Any way the one on the cover of this manual appears to be a 3pt.hitch one. The #77 could be had with several different hitch arrangements. My dad had one back in the '50's that had a swivel wheel up front and a solid mount wheel in the back,was bolted to the drawbar of the tractor[was a bear for a young kid to hook up] and the transmission on the rake allowed regular rakeing or reverse tedding.I don't know what model that one was.JH
