hi guys,I have the chance of buying a m4950dt kubota,it has overheating issues,is this a common problem with these tractors? Thanks in advance Tony.

I own a M4900 that I have had some heating issues with while pulling a hay cutter if I don't keep the radiator blown out of chaff regularly. Also the air conditioning starts blowing warm air. IMHO the radiators aren't adequate size for a tractor of that HP.

The M84950T could also possobly have a leaking head gasket. Crank it up with radiator cap off and look for air bubbles in coolant or attach a coolant pressure test gauge.

I am sorry but I just have never had anything positive happen between me and a Kubota when it comes to real work. They may be ok in the garden but you put them in a field and watch out. US Airways had them all over the place and used them for baggage tractors, pulling the baggage carts around the ramp. They spent more time in the shop than out working. I just don't trust them to be there when I need them.

Tony have sold Many M 4950 all the way thru the 8550 .. The only issue ever with the 50 series tractors were price. That tractor has a real complex high dollar (back then) transmisssion. Twenty four speeds. As for the other post yes any tractor heats up when the radiator is stopped up. They are hard to find for sale in this part of the country most people just hold on to them. At the worst you might have to remove the radiator and give it a good cleaning but don,t be afraid of it.

With all due respect to JM, heating problems can range from the ridiculous (rusty pressure cap on pressure systems or, as stated, blowing out the chaff etc) to the horrifying (major internal engine problem/s), even in generally bulletproof engines...
One might wonder why a supposedly minor problem wasn't corrected before sale, which would both make selling easier and bring a better price...

Thanks for the replies guys,a mixed bag with some for and some against. The original owner still has it and he said kubota did a recall on it when only a couple of years old and replaced the head.He is old and wants rid of it,andI'm hoping with it's issue to get for a good price and then cleanout cooling system and be good to go.I don't want to be buying new heads or doing a major teardown as my bargain will turn into a lemon reall quick. Thanks again Tony.
