My friends truck has had the steering box and power steering pump replaced four times in the last six months(twice yesterday)and still sounds like no fluid in pump..He has had this work done at Midas Muffler(please dont ask me why). His original bill was $1100.00.So of course he feels trapped now to their service.Im a shade tree mechanic,my first suggestion was,is there a specific fluid bleeding for this system when replaced..Or is there other front end components binding up to cause the pump or steering box to fail.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Stan

Stan, I work work on gm not dodge. 1st was it a new pump or rebuild? I have seen alot of problems with rebuilt pumps, both factory and after market. do they still have the pump that came on the truck? any speical valving in the factory pump? to find out if the pump or gear is at failt you need to use a presure guage to test the system. test both presure and flow rate. also what kind of fluid did they use? some vech. are very specfect to the kind of fluid. can burn up pump very fast. hope this helps david

Stan,

My son had the same problem. Put in a new pump/lines and still squealed and howlered. He checked on line (don't know what site) and posted the question as to what was going on. Apparently there's a check valve inside the high pressure line, and in some cases it's not large enough to allow the fuild to flow freely. He took the a clothes hangar and run through the line. It worked, no more squealing after all the time spent replacing pumps. Hope it works for you.

Thanks for your suggestion old.
Yours is the one I will forward to my friend.
It will help him the most

Thanks

Stan
