OT-TSA question

I have to fly on Thursday and I am wondering if anyone knows if I can wear boots with a steel toe on the plane. It's snowing here and it will still be snowing then so I don't want to try to wear sneakers if I can help it. I haven't been on a plane since May or June of 2001. If I need to I will check a bag but I am hoping to get by with just a carry on. Any advice will be much appreciated.

Get on the airline website and read or email them. Don't believe all the grandma molesting stories... With this weather, you might get there quicker in a car

Have fun.

I don't know why you can't wear steel toed boots. You have to take your shoes off and run them through the machine when you go through security.

Some people are getting on with explosives down there .You will know the answer when the xray zings. Not snowing in the terminal.

As someone else said, you will have to remove your shoes to go thru security... for me boots would be a pain to do that. There is no place to sit during the removal. Do wear matching socks without holes!!! LOL

I went in a court house and the scanner set off my steel toes. I pointed to them and said steel toes and they waved me through. I thought good Fn security I could have had a knife or gun in my boot.

zach, i flew over thanksgiving, i wouldnt wear the steel toe boots. wear a pair of slip on loafers, shaving and grooming stuff, check it, dont carry it on. check your boots and put em on when you arrive at your destination. the less junk you carry on, the quicker you go thru the security check points. the security people dont have a sense of humor, they have a job to do. there was a lady dressed county western on our flight, cowboy boots, giant belt buckle, all kinds of pewter jewelry. she went thru the detector with all this metal on, along with an attitude, and got pulled aside. tsa was not pleased with her at all.

I fly all the time, and as others have said, you will have to take them off and run them through ths scanner anyway, they might want to look inside them as well, but if you remain patient and calm you should have no problems. I have steel-toed coyboy boots and they have passed. Don"t believe everything you hear about the TSA, they have a job to do and if you are nice to them, they will be nice to you. Also, don"t forget to remove all your piercings before going through the scanner, I once saw a girl who didn"t do that, it took her awhile to get everything out. It was fun to watch though...

Thanks, that sounds good. I'm used to scanners from volunteering with an organization that goes into prisons, so I'm sure I can remain calm and patient.

Thank you glennster, I'll have a pair of sneakers along as a backup. I'm hoping not to have to check any luggage and just take what I need in a carry on. I haven't owned a pair of loafers since I was 12 or so as I remember. My feet have been size 16 since I was 15 and I don't know if they make loafers that big. I'll call the airport and see what they say too.

Well, I have to go from NY to FL to help clean out my grandmother's
house, so I did look at train and bus but they were both looking like
36 hour trips.

Thanks for the thought about the socks. I have to do the security thing when I am volunteering in prisons so I have gotten fairly good at getting my boots on and off while standing.

NY to FL. You can drive it in a day with two drivers. Then you would have your car there, no renting. My wife has family down in Fl. Last year we had a reunion down there. Some flew and some drove. The ones that flew only made it there four hours faster. If you count from when you left home to arriving there.

I have not flown any where in almost five years. More than likely will not fly again. I WILL NOT be treated like a criminal just to fly. I fought so this country would be free. Be DA### if I am going to be treated bad because we will not "profile">

That would be great if A. I owned a personal car and B. there were two of me. Actually there are a lot of times when it would be nice to have two of me under my control, but it might not work out, I don't know.
