About 3 months ago Nancy and I bought another 51MT which we named "Mack".

Working weekends during rainy days and through a few nights got "Mack" all spruced up.

This hay season "Mack" will share duties with "Sam" pulling the JD 640 hay rake, water buggy, and the JD #16 delivery trailer.

I read some very good advice on this forum a few years back.

Someone quoted an old mechanic as saying [b:654c4848f0]"never tear up more than you can fix."[/b:654c4848f0]

Starting at the front new
front tires,

lug bolts,

radiator core,
radiator pads,

fan belts,

muffler,

gas tank pads,

starter button,

battery cables,

battery,

cut-out relay,

ignition switch,

amp guage,

electric wiring,

temperature guage,

shifter boot,
axle clips, and

hub bolts.

Had both the generator and carburetor rebuilt.

Replaced the broken hub (top and bottom ) on the left rear wheel.

Removed as much dirt, grease, and rust as possible.

Used TSC spray paint and eBay decals.

Tractor Mack? Oliver has those books but his tractor in the story is red and spelled Mac.He really likes them.

(quoted from post at 02:55:24 01/04/11) Nice job Jim and Nancy! Where does it look that nice on New Years???
Hutchins Texas is a suburb of Dallas on the South side. I live in Mansfield just West of there. Great job on the tractor. JJ

Really lookin Good James.

I like the shadow too. Haven't seen much sun up here.
Ya keep sendin all the clouds up.

looking good. By the way, Ive found that sand paper will take the over-spray of the tires. It always buggs me to see paint on the tires. Looks like you did a pretty good masking job. Takes alot of time to mask but it sure makes all the difference.

There was some over-spray.

Years ago learned to spray WD40 on tires before painting rims.

Over-spray will usually just wipe off.

All of our tractors are working tractors.

Each one has particular jobs that it does best.

We will probably use it most pulling the JD 640 hay rake.

Make a post asking "how to post a picture" on this forum.

Several folks have good instructions on how to post a photo.

Really would like to see photos of your MI.

This tractor apparently had a bad accident with a previous owner.

The grill was replaced with one from an MC.

There was an MC decal on both sides of the grill.

The gentlemen's last name that sold us the tractor also starts with Mc.

Decided that "Mack" suited the little tractor.

We had two days, Friday and Saturday, with temps. above 70o at the farm.

Decided to take some photos during the "nice" weather.

Hey,

We call 'em Maytags up here in Wisconsin because they're about as useful as a maytag washer in the field. It should do OK pulling a rake, though

Very nice nice job on the Ol' MT.

Lots of work on any "true" restoration.

All of our tractors get a little bit of clean-up; some more than others.

Decided that "Mack" would clean-up easy, besides kinda wanted a nice looking MT.

Don't know if TSC carries Oliver spray paint.

James My father bought 1 of those at a farm sale in 1961. Yours sure looks good. dads looked like that, never set out. With it, He got a complete line of mounted machinery especially built fot the MT. I see you have the front and rear cultivator bracket still on the tractor. The rear bracket was shared with the belly mower. This machenery had a decal that said quick tatch on the frame. The only thing about mounting that was quick, was how fast it pinched your fingers when the jack slipped.
