OT # of county legislators in your county

I was wondering how many county legislators we have like 33,000 people and a 15 man legislator. Big pressure to cut considering san francisco has less than my county. Allegany county NY

We have 25 here in Oswego Co. Once there in you can't get rid of them. Don't do a d@m thing but spend money and suck on the countys tax money.

I'm not sure what you mean by the term "county legislator" or who you are including when counting local officials. In Iowa, the main administrative body in each county is the Board of Supervisors. This board can be either 3 or 5 members, all of whom are elected. We do not have a "county legislature"; a state legislature, yes, we have that. In Iowa we have 50 state senators and 100 state representatives; their districts do not follow county lines.. Other elected county officials are the recorder, treasurer,auditor,sheriff and attorney. Each of those have a staff of hired workers, or deputees. The size of each county's staff varies with the population. So, the answer to your question, as I read it, is "it depends on the county" in Iowa.

I'm not sure what the population is of the county where I live in Middle Tennessee, but I'd guess it's somewhere in the 30,000 to 50,000 range. We have 22 County Commissioners, plus each of the towns in the county have their own Board of Mayor and Aldermen.

One of my close friends was elected to the County Commission last fall. He's a regular guy who just decided to run. He's retired and spends a great deal of time visiting county government facilities and just talking to people.

If a person has the time, it's a worthy endeavor to serve.

In our county in Kansas of about 8,000 population we have 5 County Commissioners and I am one of them.
We have about a 4 million dollar budget.

15 or 20 people to run a county? Sounds like a real circus. How much do they get paid? No wonder counties are going broke!

Lewis County, Washington has about 70,000 people, and we have 3 County Commissioners.

Madison co Iowa has 3 and we need to add 2 more, 1 for the city and another so we have 1 from each corner of the county.
