OT, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri--Tornado hit.

If it is anything like it was in 1962 when I was there, the base gets pretty well vacated from about the 20th of Dec until after New Years.

Saw the video on the St Louis news at noon.It came up I44 but the worst stayed to the south of the city. After it crossed the river it turned more to the north.Central Sinclare and some of south and eastern Madison county had pretty hard wind but here in northern Madison around Alton and Godfrey had no wind and about 4 tenths of rain.Ever body out in YT land have a safe and happy New Year.

Sounds like Rolla area was probably hit harder than FLW.

Tornado hit Waynesville while I was at FLW for MP training in fall of 1966. We were initially asked to provide looting protection for a shopping area but the duty was canceled before we arrived.

We missed it this time but was all around in every direction only a few miles away. It appears three women died in the storm as it went through our immediate area. All lived in mobile homes which were totally destroyed. One was just north of Rolla and the other two (who happened to be related) were killed in the county just to our south about 10 miles at most. No other details have been released on them but power and other services in this area have pockets of outrages they are working on presently.
Talked to Old (Rich) who called to check on us and he said he didn't even know anything was going on up his way by the lake. That's about it from the Rolla I-44 area in south central Missouri and hope our friends aren't getting hammered over in Illinois as I guess that is where it is at present. Happy New Year to all and an even better 2011, Hal.

I live about 4 miles from Ft Wood lower west boundry. I heard that a tornado had been spotted in the area a couple miles south of me headed toward the Ft. I got golf ball sized hail and next I heard it had hit the Ft. with a few injurys but no deaths. It proceeded from there to Rolla about 25 miles. The Ft. was lucky. Some in the Rolla area weren't....

There Oct 1962 till probably Sep 64 Only place in the world that i have been that I never did get warm. You could look back to the west and see those clouds rolling and the temp could go from mid 40 to below freezing a short time. spent a lot of time out at the river m4t6 bridge site..

Was there from Oct. 69 till Feb. 70. Nice area in the fall but the short winter got cold. Never made it to Waynsville but heard lots of stories about the place. Best buddy at the time there was from Rolla.

I got a call. A relative living in Rolla got hit and is in intensive care. No update yet.
