cowboy boots

(quoted from post at 12:22:54 12/30/10) anybody out there that wears cowboy boots? i wear wranglers and ariat square toe boots myself everyday-

I wear Double H brand western/work boots. They are the ONLY brand made right here in the U.S.A.

It took me 40 years to find a pair that didn"t hurt my feet,"very narrow foot" Love the Ariats but way to wide for me. I bought a pair of Rod Patricks that fit like a glove. I would rather wear them than tennis shoes. They are pricey but feel great.

I bought a pair of "Twisted X" a couple of months ago and I think I like them better than anything I have ever had, a thick rubber sole and a thick inside liner.

If you ever find a pair of "cowboy boots" with the right fit and the correct heel, you'll wonder why you EVER wore anything else.

Grew up in a family that raised horses, so "cowboy boots" went with the territory. The mass-marketed ACME boots of the '50's and '60's were pretty much crap, but there were good boots out there. [Ever notice that all the junk that Wile E. Coyote used was ACME brand? I understand the connection.]

Had a pair of Ariat pull on ropers that fit me like a glove, blew a hole in the toe with a pressure washer (stupid story).Bought new pair of Ariats, same size/ model...but somehow different- Killed my feet, tight across the top. Couldn't stand it, stopped into Sheplers while on the road and got a on sale pair of $39 Justins that almost looked identical and have worn those every day for 3 years now.

I wear double H square toed harness boots, and have for many yr's, for work, and knocking around. My dress, and casual boots are made by Cowtown, and they always fit well. Cowtown will make them up, from your foot pattern, and price them economicaly. A good boot for the way I use them!

I recommend finding a boot seller that actually sizes your feet. There are fewer shoe manufacturers every year that offer multiple widths. The correct sized shoe is paramount. The least feet issues I have ever had were my Abilene boots. I could put them on after a long day in other shoes and my feet felt better (work forbid cowboy boots). I wore them out on the farm, and when I went to replace them, Abilene no longer offered widths. I wear a 10 or 10.5 B so the common cheap shoes stretch my feet too much. I ended up with another brand in the correct size, but they do not fit the same as my first pair. I should have had them repaired/resoled.

Even if you don't wear cowboy boots, get shoes the right size (width)! You can't replace feet like you can tires or suspension parts in a car. You're stuck with them forever.

Is there something else to wear?? The only other footwear I have known was my old Converse All stars when I was back in high school and my GI Kevlar and leather swampers. And yes my feet are shaped that way. lol I also can't wear off the shelf, but have them custom made by a local boot maker who makes them so well that the pair I am currently wearing are 12 years old and on their 6th set of 1/2 souls and heels, which he put on at no cost. We have a bet on how long they are going to last. I keep truing to wear them out and he keeps fixing them. I will say that they now have extra thick toe caps and spur peaces. He just made me a new pair of Sunday go to meeting boots. LarryT Happy New Year!!!!!!

Gramps started wearing cowboy boots from a very early age, but changed to what is known as an engineer's boot, but high like a cowboy boot!

It could be also known as a construction boot since Gramps always insisted on steel toes with a steel foot plate, he really did not want any nails coming up to bite him when he was not looking!

These boots are wider, therefore not the best for riding horses. Cowboy boots are designed (pointee) so your foot will NOT get hung up in the stirups!

Like I labelled this response, it is "all in the heel!" There are virtually three types of heels, a roper's heel, the typical cowboy boot heel (3/4 heel) then there is the "walking heel"!

Now you can hit me with the punch lines referring to myself as a "REAL HEEL"!

possibly going to get slamed on this. I do wear western boots only. I do wear western hats. I did have several pairs Cattle) with a real cowboy in colorado and helped ride some on round-up as the herd was not fenced. Summer range 30 miles bt 15 miles. winter circumference was 63 miles. That being said for my part Henery Fors had a much better idea on transportation in 1903. Love the west , especialy western Montana, wear western clothes but not COWBOY clothes

Wilson must be a "Cow-girl"! Annie Oakey also wore Western Apparel!

Gramps wears a wide brim hat, definitely NOT a cowboy/western Stetson, but an "Akubra", maybe a real southern hat!

Murry I don't usually get riled over Village Idiots, you must be the famous Tom 43 who is so stupid on other forms on this site. Let me tell you I stand 6 foot 6 inches weigh 265 lbs were size 16 A special made WESTERN boots and if you got the gonades to get close to me I would gladely knock the S##t out of you and enjoy doing it.E mail is open. Standing invation phone is 812 699 0011 e mail is open!!! I doubt you are using your real name as I do. My full name is William E Wilson, Whats yours?????????????????

Im so much more comfortable in a good pair of boots. I have one paor of shoes I hardly wear and really only use them when we get a fire run in the middle of the night. Otherwise I wear my redwing steel toe slip on work boots or my cat work boots everyday on the farm and wear a pair of arriat cowboy boots anyother time.

Well---no, I don't wear cowboy boots and haven't since childhood.

I do wear western style boots however. The difference you ask? I don't think of myself as a cowboy even though I've owned up to 110 head of cattle at a time.

I like the fit and comfort of western boots and when I left the farm and began working as a letter carrier for the USPS the guys snickered at me for wearing boots and said I'd be sorry. Nope, it was what I was used to and I continued to wear them until I received my first uniform allowance and paid for shoes.

I currently wear Ariat Western Heritage style round toes in black cherry color. They are a great boot in my opinion and probably the most comfortable ones I've ever had, also the most costly.

Mike,

I wear regular old work boots most of the time. However, I own three horses and although I don't ride them nearly as much as I need to, I always wear cowboy boots when riding. The toes of the boots slip into and out of the stirrups very easily, so that's what I really like about them.

Any time I do any horse related activities, I always wear my cowboy boots.

Yup ...... i wear them all the time. Dont know how many pairs I have but I do have a pair of Tenny Lamas. They are Tony Lamas that look like tennis shoes but have boot uppers.

never heard of "Arait" brand boots... I wear Carhart shirts & jeans & Red Wing lace up boots ..size 11 EEEE

Tony Lama's everyday and on Sunday.Helps to have company rep as a SIL.Haven't owned a pair of shoes in years.I detest gym shoes that so many "men" wear.I look at those as "girlie".How's that for 2 cents worth.

I agree with you wilson. I'm the same way - western boots and clothes, but not cowboy. Tough to explain, but there is a difference.

My summer boots are from the Great Canadian Boot Company (I think that's the name). Kinda cheap, but comfy and tough. Western style, but with a walking heel and steel toe.

If I'm in the shop all day, I wear tall Dakota lace-up work boots. Good ankle support for crawling around on equipment, and more comfortable on cement floors. In winter, I don't mess around - Baffin arctic boots. I can't stand cold feet.

As a kid, I wanted cowboy boots but we only got lace up work shoes. We had dairy cows and hogs. When I went in the Air Force, I was stationed in Texas. Cloud 9!! I bought my first pair at a shop in Fort Worth that custom fit them. Expensive, but worth it. From then on, I have always had at least 6 pair or more at a time. My first hat came from The Cow Lot in Witchita Falls. I currently have 7 hats for different seasons as well as work, rainy days, going to town, etc. When I see the clogs that try to imitate boots, I have to move on.

Im right there with you! Wrangler's, carhart T, but my square toe ariat's are my sunday go to meetin shoes, slip on red wing steel toes the rest of the time.

Guys, Since my College days (75-80) I have worn Hand made Boots. My two main Makers are Pablo Jass pronounced Hass of Lampasas,Texas he was old man Ray Jones of Lampasas main apprentice when Ray Jones retired, at his retirement in about 1977 the waiting list was still 4 yr long of people wanting a pair or 2 or 3 of his boots before he could shut his doors. Pablo started his biz off of the old Jones customers.
My other Maker is Eddie Kimmel of Comanche,Texas.
Mr Kimmels boots start at $700+ now when I got my first pair of his the base was $375 but that was over 25 yrs ago.
There is nothing like a pair of hand made boots... period. I have worn out many name brand boots but a hand made pair just get better with age. If and when you destroy the bottoms, the tops can be salvaged and put on your next pair.
I still wear production run stuff some but I still prefer my hand mades
Beside the Jones, Toe Flower that Jass Boots carry to this day and is copied by many other makers and production run too is quite distinctive. It is fun to walk up to a total stranger and strike up a conversation by saying Excuse Me!, I do know you,But I Can tell you where you got those Boots. Does not matter where you are it is a fun line to say and 99.99% of the time His boots were made at Lampasas, Texas.
Hope you enjoyed this,
Later,
John A.

I wear a pair of boots every day. Tony, Justin, Hondo, and Nocona line my boot rack. Some of them rather long in the tooth.
Bud

I wear Boulet for Good boots and Carrolina Loggers for work. Man those Carrolina Loggers last a long time, 5 Yrs+ compare to a year or two for most boots.
Later Bob

I used to but they kill my feet and back. The last few years I was teaching school I started wearing Cat brand lace up work boots. Now I keep several pairs of Cat Indiana style 8 eye lace ups, black, with steel toes for daily wear, a pair of 6 eyes to wear with shorts in the summer, a pair of Muck boots for winter, and a couple of pairs of Doc Martins 1914 Triumph 8 eye for going out. I've been eyeing a pair of 12 eye Doc Martins black with yellow stitching for a while but dont want to part with that kind of money for pretty boots.

I wear Red Wings, steel toe, 8 inch top (as of Christmas, before that Wolverine) everyday. When it is time to go out I put on my boots. I am looking for a pair of Ariats but have been having limited luck (fell in love with a pair while in Nashville but didn"t buy [kick myself atleast once a week or so for that one]). I wore the sole off of my Laredos and wear a pair of Dan Post boots right now. Gonna stop by the local Western store one of these days and see if he can set me up with a pair of Ariats.

Redwing style 2231... The most comfortable, longest wearing boots I've worn.
