i have about 15, 12 foot pieces that i have cut off the new ratchet tie downs i have bought over the years. they come 27 feet long and i never need more than 12 or so. soo i cut off the extra before i use them. cleaning out the shop. dont wanna throw them away. what can i use them for?

Throw them away and then you'll know......... Can't take up much space, roll them up tight and neat, tape them and stack in a corner. Better to have and not need than need and bot have.

takem to a good leather textile shop, and have loops sewed and glued on the ends for sling straps.

weather-stripping;put a hook on each and,use for light shop lifting,or a light duty tow strap(car only);sew em together for a "rope";weave em together for a rug;recover a lawn chair;make a hammock(my favorite).Use your immagination,the possibilities are endless!Good luck!Steve

tow and lifting straps, knife sheaths, gun slings, battery hold downs, tie up new tree plantings or use with winch to protect tree, tire holdowns, boat winch straps,re-lace lawn furn, cinch strap on saddles, makes nice easily removed bed if you have if you have topper on truck, hold fishing rods on inside roof of garage camper shed etc, one stretched beween two studs in your shed is perfect place to store long tools, door or storage box hinges, shall i go on?need a simple inexpensive loop in a hurry ,double them over and put a couple of pop rivets through them with a small washer on back side. basically anywhere you would use a rope or narrow piece of leather,or need a flexible mounting.

To keep this tractor related, I use them between the gas tank hold down straps on the McCormick Deerings; they don't soak up water like the cotton ones and therefor don't cause rust problems.

and just a few for the farm, patch barb wire fence, use as insulator on electric fence, tie up blown hyd cyl , tie up hyd hoses without cutting, tie feed troughs to stalls and you can easily dump feed and clean trough ,handles on feed buckets, lift a cow or horse thats down, pull calves,a loop around post will temporarily fix broken gate hinge.temporary corral, temporary gate, temporary snow chains, wrap around insulation on hydrants and it will be there from now on,lattice work anywhere, fence to grow beans on in garden, weave through chain link fence for wind block for chickens, gate pulls, door pulls, even had a piece screwed on the fridge once when wife broke handle, any type of hanger in barn, even used them for stabilizers on tractor a few times, and also toplink and hieght adjustment when you forget your chains at home, shims, put a couple of pieces in when wood bearings in disc rotted out, board and a couple of bolts will keep barrels from rolling around on truck, tie side boards together,a couple of loops screwed to the side of hood will hold that old beater shotgun on your tractor to shoot that old mangy coyote, tie up muffler brackets when rubber rotted away, tied down engine when motor mount broke once, and removed tire and tied up axle when i had flat on horse trailer and no spare,a piece around anything will stop those annoying rattles, use them to tie up weight in water gaps and they will last several times as long as wire, packing on valves, can be used as gaskets in a pinch, and thay can be used for a emergency flat belt.need more?think of it as duct tape without the sticky part!

Seems a shame to cut them down unless you are 100% sure you'll never need them for something else. I have many of the 27 footers, and all are made so they can be doubled-over before being threaded through the slot in the little crank-spool. Doubled over, they are only half the length. Thus no good reason I can think of to cut them shorter. 27 feet seems to be a standard size for the better HD straps.

make belts for pants!
or tool belts.
or critter collars.

2 equal sized D rings sewn into a loop on the end will work for a friction fit belt. Critter collars would need to lock in place.

And....to throw a little humor in, a few of them nailed on and you could have the best outhouse door hinges around. You could go to where they sell them and buy an item called a "Speedy Stitcher", it's what all the old farmers/ ranchers used to sew together leather used with the horses. Give it to your wife and see what she could come up with while you're watching one of those old war movies that they don't care about. I bought mine about thirty years ago and the wifey just got introduced to it the other night when the strap pulled off from her favorite Bible packing bag.
You could probably take your soldering iron and melt a hole near the end and use a bolt, nut and flat washers to make a temporary loop. Well, anyhow, it looks like you're gonna start out the new year with a lot of new ideas...hope it is your best one. ohfred

Keep "em.
My brother helped a friend move once. He had a large box labeled "Pieces of string too small to use". And, yes, he kept them.

Well really don,t know where to buy them but I have a 27 year old neighbor that designed and pattened a pouch that slides over the running end then you roll the thing into the pouch. He sold the invention for over a million. He is a real laid back guy just got lucky. I thin he told me you could buy the pouch at Lowes stores.

What I do with my pcs of belts .. is cut them in 12 to 24 inch pcs .. then when I tie something down and theres sharp edges ... I put the pcs under the belt so it doesn't get cut ... works great ...
