-Why you are looking for a tractor instead hire
some one who has to do the job for you?
-Ask yourself this question before looking for one.
1. Will I use the tractor for more than 10 hrs per year..? And every year?

If you say NO. Than hire some one to do for you.
It'll be lot cheaper, because you don't have to maintenance or worry about break down.

You just do not understand us tractor guys!!!!!!!!!!It's not the destination it's the trip!!!!!!!!!

Hmmm... Let's see. I have roughly 7 grand invested in a 5 grand tractor not including the labor. I own 1.5 acres in the 'burbs, none tillable. I have two newer vehicles that sit outside while the tractor typically sits in the garage. And the tractor was bought as a fencerow wreck, not a family heirloom.

Same tractor sports 9.5:1 compression, port matched manifolds, VDO gauges, a Mitsubishi alternator, trailer brake controller, and a vertical exhaust stack. I just ordered an electronic ignition with a chrome coil.

I can't really make any of it make sense, but it sure is fun on Halloween!

I don't have tractors to work with, I have tractors to play with. I don't have an RV, ATV, Bass Boat, Harley or any other toys that other people have. I have tractors, they are my hobby, they are paid for and I really enjoy them.

You are absolutely right---unless you are like 90% of the people on this board who just plain like tractors!

Use my tractor probably about 10 hours a year. Use other tractors at the farm probably hundreds of hours a year. This one is mine and i wouldn't sell it for any less then 25k. What is my tractor? Its a everyday Farmall H, But i have put so much time and effort into that tractor during my early teens that its worth just about 25,000 to me. It may not be the prettiest tractor at the pull or the show. Everytime i get on it it starts reliably, and pulls anything its hooked to (well that i hook it to) I live on 1/4 acre of land. The tractor lives on about 2 acres. sits in a garage, but its my hobby and i wouldn't trade it for anything

Why you a silly person?

Why you not like tractors?

I like my tractor too, I cant hire out the snow removal cause you dont have the strength to shovel and scrape a long driveway.
See how it works.

Sounds like you are either a very trusting guy, and/or just cannot do anything yourself.

I know that many people fool with tractors simply because they like them - and there's nothing wrong with that. I like them too, just because they are what they are.

But, I've got many old dozers, loaders, backhoes, farm tractors, etc. - just so when something needs to be done -I can do it right away, and just the way I want it, when I want it. That with no fear of trying to hire someone at a high price that may or may not do what I ask - and sometimes worse.

I've got three remote properties and have old tractors, hoes and dozers at them all. Works out very well and I never have to try to hire anybody. I've dug foundations, ponds, installed septic sytems, hauled trees out of the woods, grown crops, etc. - with having to "hire" anybody.

Why on earth would anyone ever go fishing? With cost of licenses, boat, etc., etc., fish would cost only a tenth as much if purchased at the supermarket, even if you're the best fisherman on earth.

Hunting? Same deal.

And canning food from a garden- how silly is that? I just bought pickled beets for 59 cents a can, and no way I could grow, pickle and can them for that.

Are you getting the picture?

Mike (Wa) If you ever had home-made kraut, pickled beets, catch-up, and other assorted goodies from your garden and feedlot not to mention the training that your children get from tending this stuff and showing the fruits of their labors at the 4-H and FFA shows you would understand what we like about-grown food. You just can"t buy food this fresh and good tasting!!! Armand

Whats wrong with having tractors? I have 10 only 2 run and have 9 more havent got home yet. plus about 10 pu and trucks plus tillage equipt on 3/4 acre.

I put about 100 hours on my tractor a year.If I put on 1 I would still have it.They are comforting machines that harken fond memories of my childhood and riding on them with my father when he worked on a dairy farm.

I didn't want a repeat of my childhood. Heck, I spent 14 years working out of a utility trailer that was completely enclosed in exhaust smoke. I wanted to build this one to pull kids around. No rear exit exhaust for me! Who knows what I would have become if it hadn't been for all them exhaust fumes...

Not a great pic, but you can see the mountian line is almost the same, I mean not perfect. See the two red light towers.

My SH gets used about 10 hours /year. It get's another 10 hours from just messing with it. It can sit for months and fire right up.

The whole point is that I WANT to, that's why!!!

I bought a new John Deere Yellow industrial backhoe loader 3 years ago. It cost almost 60 grand. I have 275 hours on it. It is well worth the money to me. It is worth a lot more than a new Mersades to me. I feel guilty sometime knowing that lots of people need it more than me.
Someday someone will get a good deal when I am dead and gone tho. Most of the 275 hours were put on it working for neighbors without pay . What ever blows your skirt up as the girls say.

If that is your first post as someone suggested, well done, you got 33 replies but no friends.Interesting name.. where from??

A day on the water with an old friend, a few sandwiches, couple cans of beer, bass jumping, PRICELESS.Same with hunting.Doesent matter if you dont see any game.A lunch with hot tea beside my brook in the big hemlocks, the quiet of the deep woods.PRICELESS.Jars of hot peppers, dill and sweet pickles, relish and dilly bean and jelly put up with love by your wife of 53 years PRICELESS.You dont have a clue.

I guess irony is lost on some- my post apparently didn't even slow down as it sailed right over your head. I actually agree with you- my point being that you shouldn't base your entire life on whether something "pencils out" or not- some things we do just for the enjoyment, including tractor seat time.

We went over the Grand Mesa in 2000. Now that is a ride but beautiful view from the top.
My wifes sister lives in Paonia.
