3/8 Lockwasher

I dropped a 3/8" lockwasher in the bellhousing of a 1935 Silver King. What's the chances the little devil went straight to the bottom and will stay there sleeping? Other than splitting the tractor or going fishing with a magnet anybody got any suggestions? And do not tell me to go buy a green tractor. Trailers are green and tractors are silver.

Never had a Silver King apart, but I sure wouldn't think anything would have so little clearance that a 3/8ths washer would bother anything. Those little extendable magnets that slide together and look like an ink pen are pretty cheap at the auto parts store if it makes you too nervous.

In the bellhousing?

I "think" that the only thing that might suffer is the lockwasher itself if it doesn't lie down and be good. :>)

nah, i wont tell you to uy a green tractor, but i will REQUEST pics of the silver king, its a seldom seen tractor and they look neat

Don't worry about it. It is fairly common to find fairly large pieces of starter drives in bell housings when splitting a tractor.

Don't worry, my silverking had plenty of sticky goo in there. So its probably stuck and not evan down where the flywheel is.Mine allso had the broken springs in there.

I was out on a mountain road one afternoon with my Model A coupe and I shut the engine off to go exploring, when I got in to start it the starter wouldn"t engage. So, I got out the crank and started it that way, when I got home I took the starter out. Here the bolt that held the bendix spring fell out. I got a magnet and tried to fish for the bolt. I didn"t get out and since there didn"t seem to be a problem, I juist put another bolt in. I drove it that way and later I had an accident where I rolled the car over. I didn"t think about the bolt until I tried to start the engine much later. It wouldn"t turn so I tried turning it in the opposite direction and I heard a clunk, duh, then the lightbulb lit up, that was the bolt. It jammedd the flywheel when the car rolled over. I never tried to get it out, because it didn"t matter. So I don"t think it would matter in a tractor.
