Were gonna get a Noreaster today in eastern NY, was wondering if anyone down south along the east coast is getting snow yet? Were I am, Im at the very tail of it, it wasent supposed to come this far west, but I guess it changed, now there predicting up 16" os so. J

No snow yet here in North-East ma. A lot of hype on the TV - This year I am running a small Kamatsu 200 loader for highway cleanup.
Looks like I may be busy for the next few days.

Jay, I'm near Raleigh, NC and we've got about 8-10" of the white stuff.

Sending it your way now, it's about done snowing here.

I'm up in nothern Maine visiting family, we're suppose to get 4-8 here. Down where I live in the Mid-Coast they're talking 12" +

Funny, it's usually the opposite of that.

I love snow, the only kicker is I feel bad that I'm not down there to help with the clean up.

Been snowin its a## off here on eastern shore of MD since last night got about 8 inches and just heard a blizzard warning come across fire radio for overnight.

I dont know, this one is going North and I guess east. NYC is getting snow right now, but we still havent got a thing, its coming they say.

It started here at about 5:00. The snow (not the storm) is coming out of the northeast. It looks like about an inch and a half an hour. At times like this I am glad not to be on the Fire Dept. any longer.

I think you said your in Mass? I dont remember thought. It must be coming up MD, NJ, PA and then west toward me in NY? Have fun.

Been snowing here since 8am, according to the weatherman (only job in the world you can always be wrong and still have a job ) we are supposed to get 17 inches

They keep saying its coming, it was to start between 12:00 and 2:00 here, last I was outside at 6:15 or so, nothing. Had plans in place for my father in law to do his own chores if the roads got bad, but it dident snow. Oh well. They are saying 35mph winds so drifting will be a big problem.

Nor'easter is refering to wind direction. When the storm track runs parallel with and offshore of the coast, the counter-clockwise cyclonic winds will start from the north east. The end of the storm will usually have north westerly to westerly winds. You can track wind direction and make your own forecasts as to the duration of the storm. There are times the storm center gets locked off Nantucket by upper level winds and the track doesn't advance. That happened in '78 and we got 36" of snow.

If the storm track runs parallel to the coast but inland, most of the winds along the coast will come from the warm sector and be southerly. That will most always means rain. Cape Cod is going to get mostly rain so the track will be cutting across it.

You could have learned all this by watching Boston TV (and other similar locations) for the current storm and the near miss last week. Cape Cod got bombed (12") and eastern MA only got a few inches.

So just watch your weather-man and you will learn something. If that person happens to be a weather-woman, just try to concentrate a little harder.
