Difference in Delco Distrib?

I am interested in changing my tractor over to electronic ignition and am interested in the Pertronix Ignitor 2. The problem is that the only available unit for my distrib is a standard ignitor. The Ig2 is available for my tractor model, but only with the 1112644 dizzy, not my 1112583. Does anyone know the difference? Can the kit for the 2644 be adapted?

Thanks in advance,

Aaron

Save your money. You can buy a lot of Points and Cond. for the price of a electronic ignition that will burn out in a couple of years.

Are you just going by a website or have you called somebody? I couldn't find one for my Mallory on my Oliver 1550 either. Most sites had them for V8 engines with Mallorys but no 6 cylinders. I finally called one that had a website and he said yes,he had them for the Mallory 6s too, they just didn't have them listed on the site.

Run it past Pertronix Tech Support.

I agree with maark, Also keep an extra set and if in the rare case a filing and set won't do it then in just a couple minutes you can install a new set. To keep an extra electronic is kinda expensive. I DO NOT see the advantage in electronic ignition. I am 71 years old and have never I mean never never been stranded road side by point ignition and have been stranded several times by electronic ignition.

Due to the light useage (parade, hayride, snowplowing), I tend to foul my plugs. This is also made worse by the high compression pistons in my engine. I tend to replace a lot of plugs. I could run a hotter set, but those are $12 a piece at my local NAPA. I would rather just run a hotter spark. The reason I want the IG2 is the adaptive dwell and the higher energies available at lower engine speeds. The main reason is the over amp protection. I would hate to leave my key on and cost myself 70 bucks.

IMHO if it won't run right and or with out fouling plugs, you have other problems. You can intensify the spark with a button a lot cheaper and more reliable than electronic ignition. You can also buy spark intensifiers that use the same principal as a button. Don't know what they cost but probably a lot cheaper than electronic ignition.

Kare to elaborate more on this?
