We have 2 Atomic Clocks. Had them about 7 or 8 years. One quit working right after the time change and the other one quit last night. I thought they were supposed to last forever. What happened, run out of atoms??? Pitch them and buy new ones??? Chris

Well, the transmitters aren"t the problem: they"re run by the National Bureau of Standards. On 24/7. WWV in Colorado, WWVH in Hawaii.

My watch has been updating regularly, last updated at 12:05 last nite. Your reception may vary, depending on time of year, propigation, distance from transmitters, terrain, location within the building, etc. Clock should keep time fairly accurately even if not updated daily. Suggest you check the batteries in your clocks.

Well.. Kinda long story, But when DST came.. One of Mine went literally CRAZY showed wrong day date time etc: Well..What you have to do is take the Batts out and start over with Batt in TRANSMITTER first,...then it still has to get synchronized itself, I never had one to do this but it Eventually got it'self corrected. and i have No idea as to what caused this!! Larry

Chris.Find out when and where the next undergrounf atom bomb blast will be, then wrap em up and send em to washington for final destination. Don't forget a return address . When they are returned not only will they keep time. They will LIGHT UP YOUR ENTIRE HOME!!!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS. SON SAYS it could be because of the cheep influx of the china and japanese atoms. Don't know for a fact because were Not PURIST.

Just stopped? No warning? Didn't buzz real loud or anything first? It does have a buzzer on it, don't it? Well, just the same don't waste anytime packing too much stuff and get you and the family out of there quick. Just grab a few belongings and take the family to the nearest nuke power plant or naval ship yard that has nuke subs or ships and have them de-nuke you. Best to wait until dark so that when you drive up to the gate, they see you glowing and stuff, and know that you're serious. Just stopped you say? Just like that? They were supposed to have fixed that problem of "Failure To Warn" I think is the official term used by the NRC. Was anyone home when it happened? If so, was there a pink flash or a blue flash? Oh, never mind that. Show up at the gate to get de-nuked in the dark glowing and stuff, and they will be able to tell by your glow whether there was a pink flash or blue flash. Pink is bad, but blue is the worst. Mine was a blue flash they said, so it took me a week of being locked up and de-nuked before they let me back out into society, protecting everyone that I might come into contact with. That was three years ago and they say that I still measure pretty good on the geiger counter and some other meters and stuff, but they say that I have to be retested for 7 more years and measure less than 20 on the meter, or I will have to keep going back for shots and stuff until I do measure under 20 for at least 10 successive years. Again, I'm doing ok but my neighbor is still mad at me because he was home when it happened, so he got infected too. He lives 1/2 mile from me. And the live stock. Some of them look pretty funny, but 2 hooves on each leg does make them get around better than they used to. Of course though, it takes down how much the fella gives me per pound at the slaughter house because he's afraid that a USDA inspector might come in and see 8 hooved cattle and start asking questions. I will never ever buy another atomic clock again ever after going through all of that.

Anyway Chris, I'm full of crap, so you just have yourself a Merry Christmas with your family and friends.

Mark

The atomic part is the signal that tells it what time it is.

They run on batteries just like another colck, no little nuclear plant inside them. :)

Mark I gotta tell you. I was OTFLMAO .You do have quite a humorous sence of problem that faces Atomic clock owners. I'ts Christmas Mark, Thanks a bunch Loved your story. Will be on the lookout for glowing hamburger at Mc Donalds during a power failure. LOU

I have an atomic clock radio here. D*m thing keeps picking up interference from the eight nuclear units down the road. Right now it's broadcasting the business report and stocks from Jan 24 2011.

I expect since many are included in a weather station the transmitter referred to was the outdoor temperature sending transmitter.

Seems I"ve read lithium ion batteries are about the only ones that will work where it gets super cold--compared to what most of us think of as cold anyway.

By Golly you were right, they do have batteries in them. Don't think I ever replaced them before. Both working now. Merry Christmas. Chris
