Extending Battery Life

I have heard of adding hydrogen peroxide to each cell of a tired battery and have heard of adding a common aspirin to each cell to extend it"s life. Has anyone ever tried the aspirin method with any success?

Hello,
There is no substitude for properly maintained
and properly charged battery!
Guido.

Come on now.
Don"t you think that the battery company would do that if it helped? Cost of one asprint to make a 4 year bettery into a 5 year battery.

I guess I wouldn't count on that- battery mfgrs want to sell more batteries, not make them last longer.

Whoever made our toaster is probably really kicking themselves- got it as a wedding present, its still toasting perfectly, and the Mrs. and I will celebrate #40 in February. Its not always been an easy ride, but at least, the toast has always been good.

I have that the new chargers with their desulfation technology would be the best bet. Course, keeping them warm in the winter and cool in the summer helps!

I did the aspirin thing one time to a battery that would go dead over night and it worked the rest of the summer. I think the key is to put the aspirin in and then a slow trickle charge for a few days. I don't know if it would work on every battery but it did work on the one that I tried. Bob

Don't under or over charge a lead acid battery.
A lead acid battery under ideal conditions should to exceed a temp of 78F.
Deep cycling from short stop-start duty. Or if somebody can't remember to shut off the headlights and runs a battery dead. Rapidly ruins batteries.
Baking soda neutralizes battery acid. A dead battery's electrolyte is a weak acid. A fully charged battery's electrolyte is very acidic.
If a battery's only problem was shorted plates then flushing may wash the short away. Then again that "gunk" in the bottom of the battery is plate material. What went wrong to have the plates deteriorate and become bottom sludge?
Once a battery starts to fail. The only solution is to break down the battery, re-melt the lead and purify.

Mike, do you remember who gave it to you? They might like to know of its longevity.

SORRY FOLKS MY LAST POST I STATED I READ IN FARM SHOW MAG. THAT BAKING SODA HELPED MY BATTERY, I GUESS AFTER 65 SOME OF US GET SOME THINGS MIXED UP !!! ANY WAY IT WAS EPSOM SALT THAT I USED ABOUT A HALF TEASPOON IN EACH CEL MADE 5 YEAR OLD BATTERY A LOT BETTER I DONT KNOW FOR HOW LONG FINGERS CROSSED. FAST EDDIE SORT OF
