Favorite equipment?

Just thought Id ask what everyones favorite piece of equipment was? Id have to say mine is my John Deere 346 square baler w/the pan thrower. I wish it still had the multi lube, but I bought it used and someone took it off and threw it away. So not tractors but your favorite equipment.

Iv got the NH 56 rake. I like it better than my New Idea rake. 56 is older than yours I think.

like you, my favorite is also a baler, however a 276 New Holland. That baler baled hay for nearly 30 years before the guy that bought it from my dad retired it...and still wishes he hadn't.

skid steer is top on my list, as far as implements, I guess my Vermeer 505SI round baler. Has baled over 15,000 bales and never done anything to it.

A properly set up 2,3 or 4btm plow with properly adjusted coulters , cover boards and trash wire / chains turning under 4' grass without a hint of any on the surface afterwards. Have done it and there's nothing quite like looking back at that field half done. Job satisfaction at it's best. Wish I had some photos.

hay equip:
have to be my mid-70's new holland 273 baler and 479 haybine
grandfather bought them new and they still do their work (though starting this summer they are sharing duty with a "new" 311 and 488)

non-hay:
homemade dump trailer from the back end of a ford f600 dumptruck.

Sure name it. Around here we have Nearpass pulling I think it is and the Vermonster, if I remember right.

Hey Steve, how did you friend make out at Macfaddens, he get a loader tractor? You have a happy Holiday, Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.

NH 1400 combine w/ 962N6 corn head. I just like combining, and taking 6 rows at a time is SUCH an improvement from the 1 and 2 row pickers I started with.

And you"re going to pass up C-4 and the Claymore mine? All those handy peebringers, maybe the "bouncing betty"? LOL!

A Du-al high lift loader, that I bought for $150. on a cold rainy afternoon, at the Chehalis aucton. I took it home, and mounted it on a WFE WD45, and now I can even appreciate that old tractor, that I didn't like useing. Handy as a pocket on a shirt!

Everything I have which is not much. Just what I need to get the job done and not have to beg anyone else. Most used and versatile is the quad in summer (with a chain harrow) and a 3PH (3 of them) for year round chores.

friend did not get the loader tractor...
personally, i think he got gun shy...there was that deere 2840 (? 70hp 40-series) w/ fairly low hours and a loader seperate from it...said he felt that $7500 together would be a good price...tractor went first for around $5100 or so...he did not bid...loader went next for $1100
so would have been $6200 or so for the pair...which is a helluva deal...the tractor was in great shape, real smooth running, everything looked real nice...but he was going to look at a massey 285 in the altamont area ( i think...its been on craigslist) -tractor w/ loader, 3k hours, $7500...
i am a massey guy and love the 200 series...our 265 is a nice running, easy to use machine...can't beat it...
but i think he is nuts for passing on that deere to look at the massey - lower hours, newer machine, plus the tractor never had the loader on it (though it was set up for it) which means less front-end wear etc...
but someone can only spend what they want to spend on what they are comfortable spending...
we did well in the morning...got some odds and ends and tools nice and cheap...jim was in a real good mood...threw out about 50 pocket knives as a christmas gift...
the canadian female auctioneer was in rare form too...she has a good sense of humor

brought another friend...looking for a backhoe to toy around with at home...he picked up a case310 with an aftermarket backhoe attached (probably late 40's...overall, from a distance, it looked like hell but the backhoe was actually in real nice shape ...hoses and cylinders very nice...ran great, plenty of power for a 30ish horse machine...he got that for $3k and was very pleased...
he got it home last week...and has been playing with it...

those metal haywagons in the pics...all steel decking...fairly HD...but not brand=new pequa's or anything ... went for $2600 or so...out of my league...

anyway, happy holidays and new years...hopefully the weather...though cold...stays uneventful.

7 foot flail mower, looks so nice after a pass.

Tree spade, never have to touch a shovel again.

Loader, too many uses to list.

Any thing in the ground, disc, plow, cultivator, and drag. Good smell of the spring dirt means no more snow.

Funest one is my New Idea corn picker. Just love pickin corn in late fall, easy to unload, not like unloading all my 1000s of square bales. Hopefully someday I'll be sayin my faverite thing is my self-propelled small square bale loader!!

Guys, Behind my ol 966 is the 2350 IH loader that is on it, waaaaaayyyyyy to many uses to list.
2nd to that is my CeeTee pliers on my hip, Followed by a close 3rd is my Schrade Old Timer pocket knife.
Later,
John A.
