Minnesota farmland prices

Can anyone point me to information about what farmland in south central MN is going for these days? I"m looking at land about 50 miles north of the twin cities. Also, where can I get soil data, etc.?

50 miles north of Metro is still sandy- tough to farm in East Central MN- MPLS to Duluth, and nothing north of that. Typical land that close to Metro is for development. I have some very accurate statewide soil maps from decades ago in my files- can tell within less than a mile what soil type is- you should be able to access current soil maps through USDA, NRCS or Soil Conservation Service, or U of MN farm campus at St. Paul. Local farm coops, fert dealers have same maps here- use them for crop production planning, appl, etc. Centra-Sota is one coop in area NW of Metro- ie, Buffalo and west, north to beyond St. Cloud, Rice, etc. Southern MN land and north of metro are worlds apart, especially in productivity. (you will starve north of metro, unless you irrigate, and even then, it is not a farming area) Metro price reflects development, So MN reflects productivity.

Thanks. Do you have any price data? Price/acre is 3-3800 which seems way too high for the soil quality you describe. The farm is in a very rural area with no metro development nearby. Email is open.

Use the USDA's <a href="http://websoilsurvey.nrcs.usda.gov/app/HomePage.htm">Web Soil Survey</a> application to view detailed soil maps.

As for the price, go to the county assessor's office and ask for the tax values on the parcel. It's public record.
